Impact
Malnutrition in South Africa is a persistent challenge that hampers human potential and community development. Although South Africa ranks 59th globally for food security and performs well within Sub-Saharan Africa, hunger remains a widespread issue.
The crisis is driven by multiple factors, including climate change-induced droughts and floods, economic shocks and recent civil unrest. These pressures particularly impact vulnerable households, exacerbating hunger and malnutrition levels.
To address these challenges, SOS Children’s Villages has launched Nourishing Futures. This programme addresses immediate hunger relief for the most vulnerable children in South Africa, while establishing sustainable, community-based interventions for long-term food security.
TCC Foundation is proud to support charities dedicated to protecting vulnerable children and tackling child hunger. Having personally visited an SOS Children’s Village, I have witnessed firsthand the impact of their model in helping children thrive in a nurturing family and wider community. We are thrilled that this project in South Africa will provide a vital lifeline for 840 children annually, ensuring essential nutrition and strengthening community resilience through sustainable food practices.

What they have supported and why
Since 2021, TCC has been supporting our work in South Africa, helping to empower children and families to create a resilient, well-adjusted next generation. Most recently, their support renovated thirty family homes across our Cape Town, Gqeberha and Pietermaritzburg Children’s Villages.
From 2025, TCC is supporting Nourishing Futures. Malnutrition limits children’s education, health, and future opportunities, trapping families in cycles of poverty. TCC are supporting SOS Children’s Villages to improve nutrition and health outcomes for children facing these challenges. We will provide essential nutrition and foster community resilience through sustainable food practices. Together, we will create a nourished generation capable of contributing to their communities, breaking the cycle of inequality and stimulating economic growth.

Busi's Story
As a baby, Busi was severely malnourished, spending months in hospital. When she came to Thandi, her SOS Mother, Thandi used her expertise to help Busi recover. With nutrient-rich broths, soups and daily vitamins, Busi regained her strength, started to walk and soon joined the other children in play.
Today, Busi is thriving in primary school, where she enjoys reciting poems, singing and dancing. “I love school, dancing, my brothers and sisters and most of all, mama Thandi!” Busi says.
