SOS Children’s Villages Eco Champions from Somalia, Jordan, Uganda, Nigeria, Namibia, and Sierra Leone are attending COP30 as innovators, problem-solvers, and advocates. Mentored, trained, and funded through our Eco Champions programme, they drive climate solutions in their communities – from reforestation projects to renewable energy initiatives.

From joining a peaceful march to hosting events (‘Children’s Rights in a Changing Climate: Youth Voices for Change’ and ‘From Testimony to Treaty: Youth Demands for Policy Change), we’ve been proud participants at the climate conference.
And our message is simple: we’re urging global leaders to put children’s rights at the centre of climate policy, and demanding they include young people in every climate decision, particularly girls, young women, and marginalized communities as the most affected groups.
When children are centred in climate policy, solutions become more just, more sustainable, and more child-friendly.

This paper is being presented by our Eco Champions at COP30.
*Desertification is the gradual transformation of productive land into unproductive, desert-like land, which has serious consequences for food security, water availability, biodiversity, and livelihoods.
