The relocated community of SOS Children’s Village Rafah is currently staying at a tented encampment near Khan Younis.
Staff, programme participants, and their families left the tented encampment in Deir-Al-Balah on 22 August, following an evacuation order for nearby areas. SOS Children’s Villages in Palestine is in contact with most of the 85 individuals who were sheltered at the encampment and is supporting them by providing tents, food, water tanks, solar systems, and any other possible assistance.
Forty-one children, along with their caregivers and staff, are still living in the second tented encampment in Khan Younis.
On 10 September, an Israeli attack on Mawasi Khan Younis — designated as a safe zone — killed more than 40 people and wounded 60 others. The attack occurred 3 kilometres away from the encampment in Khan Younis.
Staff on the ground are continuing to search for an alternative location in case of an emergency relocation.
In coordination with local partners and organisations providing healthcare in Gaza, all children living in the Khan Younis camp have been vaccinated as part of the polio vaccination campaign.
