We are very relieved to share that all children, young people, and co-workers at SOS Children’s Villages Thailand are safe following the recent earthquake.

SOS Children’s Villages does not currently operate any programmes in Myanmar where the earthquake has caused widespread devastation and already led to the loss of over 1,600 lives. However, we send our hearts out to the people of Myanmar during this awful time.

Mr Phahol Trangkineenad, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Thailand, stated: “We can confirm that all children, youth, and co-workers across SOS Children’s Villages Thailand are safe. If any further concerns arise, we will take immediate action following our humanitarian plan to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our care.”

In Chiang Rai, where the earthquake in Thailand was strongest, the children were quickly and calmly evacuated to safe areas. Thankfully, there were no major injuries or damage reported in any of our Villages. In Bangkok, where tremors briefly disrupted daily life, our National Office and SOS Children’s Village Bangpoo experienced only minor shakes, with no safety concerns.

Our teams are currently checking all buildings to ensure everything remains secure. Staying prepared for emergencies is incredibly important to us. Our humanitarian action plan remains active, particularly in earthquake-prone regions like Chiang Rai and Phuket. We have established robust partnerships with local authorities to ensure swift and safe evacuations to designated areas, equipped with disaster bags for emergencies. We also regularly train children, young people, and caregivers, to make sure they are prepared for events such as these. We stand in solidarity with all those affected by this devastating earthquake. As always, we’re here to provide support to our colleagues and comfort to every child in our care. Together, we can make a difference.

SOS Children’s Villages Thailand remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of all children and co-workers. Further updates will be provided as the situation progresses.
