Traditional coffee ceremonies and coronavirus in Ethiopia: a collection of photographs

Responses to the coronavirus pandemic have varied across the world. In Ethiopia, information and advice relating to the pandemic, including proper hygiene practices are being shared at a traditional coffee ceremony. The ceremony is an integral part of social and cultural life in Ethiopia and now provides an excellent opportunity for women, some with their children, to learn how to protect themselves against the virus. Staff from SOS Children’s Villages in the region have been a large part of this information sharing. Alongside the traditional coffee ceremony, the SOS team in Harrar has been distributing basic food, masks and disinfection products to locals.

These stunning images all capture this coronavirus response.
