We’re really pleased to report that all 115 children and 12 SOS mothers who were evacuated from SOS Children’s Village Lipa in the Philippines due to the erupting Taal volcano returned home over the weekend after staying in Manila for nearly three weeks.
In January, the children were transferred from SOS Children’s Village Lipa to SOS Children’s Village Manila when a major eruption of the Taal volcano appeared to be imminent.
The authorities have now lowered its alert status to Level 3 - meaning that a major volcanic eruption is now less likely to occur.
"Now that the families are coming back, our SOS Children's Village in Lipa City will be filled again with happiness,” said Johnald Lasin, the Village Director. “But we remain vigilant in monitoring the volcanic activities. We are still prepared for anything that could happen."
