Despite facing numerous challenges while growing up, with opportunities often seeming out of reach, Amenan*, a driven and resilient young woman from Cote d’Ivoire, never abandoned her dream of working in a pharmacy and achieving independence.
In February 2023, Amenan learned about ‘Project YES’, part of Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, through a friend. Intrigued by its promise to equip young people with skills for stable employment, Amenan decided to enrol.
Through Project YES, Amenan participated in comprehensive training sessions covering job search techniques, ICT, graphic design, and community management. Armed with these newfound skills and knowledge, she was determined to further her education to enhance her job prospects.
With support from project officers, Amenan enrolled in a six-month programme at the International Marketing Group school, where she excelled in training as a pharmacy assistant and cashier, graduating at the top of her class.
The project’s emphasis on perseverance has been transformative for Amenan. Today, she works as an intern at a local pharmacy in Aboisso, gaining invaluable work experience that will pave the way for her first permanent role in her chosen profession.
Reflecting on her journey with Futuremakers, Amenan emphasises, “Every success has its own path, but what truly matters is determination and perseverance. Thanks to the YES Project, I am now a fulfilled woman, earning respect from those around me.”
