Darya Kasyanova, National Programme Development Director at SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine and Chairperson of the Ukrainian Child’s Rights Network, received one of Ukraine’s highest civil decorations – the Order of Princess Olga, 2nd Class.
The president bestowed the award by decree on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, 24 August.
Darya’s response to being awarded the Order of Princess Olga
“I truly see this award as a team recognition, the team of SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine and the team of Ukrainian Child Rights Network.” Darya says.
“I understand that [the president] awarded it for the efforts in returning children, but at the same time, it reflects our broader work in child rights protection, prevention of orphanhood, and support for children who have lost their parents.
“I believe it is important that the state acknowledges this field and the people working in child protection. This recognition is not about past achievements but about the future.
“There is still so much to be done, and for that, one needs strength, energy, and goodwill. It is very heart-warming that so many people wrote to me and expressed their support.”

It is for her continuous efforts in ensuring every child grows up in a family environment.

“We are truly proud and honoured to work alongside Darya protecting children’s rights and developing a society in which every child grows up in a safe and caring family environment.”
The Order of Princess Olga is a civil decoration in three classes awarded to women for personal merits in:
- Strengthening the Ukrainian statehood.
- Courage and dedication in defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
- Important contributions to the development of the fields of social care and protection.
- Unwavering commitment to professional duty.
