Community groups

Encourage your friends and community groups to join you in supporting SOS Children’s Villages UK. Fundraising together is great fun and means you can raise more money and make an even bigger impact on the lives of vulnerable children, young people, and families. Whether you're part of an existing community group or want to set up a new group, we are here to partner with you and make it work.

Existing community groups

Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street

The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, County Durham has been supporting SOS Children’s Villages UK for more than a decade. They raise money specifically for the SOS-run Sheikh Secondary School in Somaliland, in memory of their close friends Dick and Enid Eyeington, who were instrumental in restoring the school. The club has raised thousands of pounds for the school, including money for a new Information Communication Technology (ICT) suite.

Forming your own fundraising group

Use your energy, skills and commitment to help an important cause.  Link up with like-minded people to create an even bigger impact across your community and be the driving force of fundraising and awareness-raising in your area. Here are some examples of community groups that have been formed to fundraise for SOS Children’s Villages UK.

Ways in which we have worked together include:

The Extra Guest started supporting SOS UK in 2011 and uses restaurants and dining as an opportunity for fundraising. The group’s creator, Moyra Irving, encourages restaurants to join the scheme, allowing diners to donate £1 with every meal to an “extra guest”. The Extra Guest has partnered with a number of restaurants across the country, with some of them matching donations. The group also host regular dinner parties and events for additional fundraising opportunities. The Extra Guest has raised thousands of pounds for SOS projects, particularly across India and Pakistan. This innovative fundraising group has sprung up in other locations, and works closely with SOS UK.

The Pakistan Supporters’ Group is one of the most prominent groups supporting SOS Children’s Villages UK. Over recent years they have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for our work in Pakistan.
