Located in the north-east of Pakistan, Sargodha is one of the few planned cities in the country. The district is known as Pakistan's best citrus-producing area, and it's a centre for trade and industry.
Despite these signs of prosperity, many children in the city live in poverty and are at risk of loosing parental care. SOS Children provides vulnerable children with a loving home and the support they need to flourish.
Community supports Children's Village
SOS Children’s Village Sargodha was ready in 1995 and consists of 14 family homes around large playgrounds. Here lone children are cared for by an SOS mother, and live with SOS brothers and sisters. There is support from the local community, and we hope that over time this will increase to the level of support in other cities.
The area where the Village is located has severe problems of water salinity. Over the years, there have been many attempts to address the issue. The most recent intervention was a water filtration plant, and this appears to have solved the problem. Now, children and families in the area enjoy safe drinking water.
Delivering essential education
We believe that education is a key to empowerment, and ensure that each child in our care receives a quality education. We built an SOS school with 35 classrooms, two science laboratories and a computer room. The school can currently take in 1,000 pupils. Children from the local community are welcome in this school, and study alongside children from the Village.
When children grow up and feel ready to leave their family home, there is an SOS youth home for adolescents. It is located between the Village and SOS school and has all the facilities required, including a large recreational area.
Orphaned and abandoned children are given a loving home in SOS Children's Village Sargodha. Will you sponsor a child today?
