The seven ages of SOS children: SOS young children

Walking to a normal life

Ivory Coast

Ernest enjoys a cuddle with his SOS mother at the SOS Village in Abobo Gare, Ivory CoastFour-year-old Ernest was born with severe physical disabilities. Ernest’s mother died shortly after his birth and his poor father was unable to do anything for his son.

When Ernest arrived at the SOS Children’s Village Abobo Gare at 15 months old, he couldn’t even sit up. Without all the care and support he received, his SOS mother strongly believes “Ernest would not have survived”.

After treatment at a rehabilitation centre in Bonoua, Ernest’s SOS mother has been encouraging him to use his limbs through games and play.

Today, the transformation is amazing. With his special boots, Ernest can now walk unaided and like any lively little boy, he is never in one place for long!
