Sponsor a child in Botswana
At 23%, Botswana has one of the world's highest HIV/AIDS rates, and the vast majority of the country's orphans have lost their parents to the disease. We help families overcome HIV/AIDS through medical care and ongoing support, and provide a loving home for children who have lost their parents. … more about our charity work in Botswana

Would you like a tour of an SOS Village?

SOS Children's Village Tlokweng welcomes you into their community
SOS Children's Village Tlokweng welcomes you into their community

“Lights, camera, action!” exclaim children at our Village in Tlokweng, Botswana. They are eager to give you a tour of their Children's Village through short videos. You will be shown around an SOS family home, meet SOS mothers, and find out why there are red elephants at the SOS Nursery. Finish the tour with some music from the Village's marimba band.

When Dave Mills, a filmmaker from the UK, visited SOS Children's Village Tlokweng in Botswana he returned with some wonderful videos. He captured the energy and cheekiness of the children, their pride in their SOS family homes, and the love given to them by their carers. Watch these short videos and see our work come alive...

Welcome to the SOS Children's Village Tlokweng

“The Tlokweng Village has 16 family houses and 238 children in total. We also have Villages in Serowe and Francistown,” say these two girls growing up in the SOS Village in Botswana. We also meet the Village Director in this video, who explains that “we make sure our kids are healthy, and are able to go to school”. SOS mothers and aunties speak of the importance of giving love to the children in their care: “love is the main thing you have to do.”

Inside an SOS family home

“Let us show you a typical house around the SOS Children's Village,” says this young boy – who proudly takes up the role of tour guide in this short video. He shows off their lounge, kitchen (and well-stocked fridge!), bedroom and bathroom, as well as introducing his brothers. The tour ends in their garden which is full of colourful flowers.

“The main thing is the love, care and attention we give the children”

We believe pre-school education spurs a child's development, which is why we make it a priority at all our Children's Villages. Young children in Tlokweng go to the SOS Nursery (kindergarten), where they get “a lot of love, a lot of attention and academically they are stimulated” explains the principal.

And now for some music...

Children at the SOS Village in Tlokweng take part in all kinds of activities, from football to gardening. Another keen hobby of many of the children is playing the marimba – which is like a xylophone but made of wood. End your tour by listening to the Village's marimba band, and as an encore watch children at the SOS Nursery perform the wiggy song!

Loving homes in over 125 countries

SOS Children's Village Tlokweng is just one of the 547 Villages around the world. Inside each community are mischievous and energetic children who are growing up in a loving SOS family. Before the children arrived in their new home, their young lives looked bleak; they were alone with no-one to care for them and no safe place to call home. Now, with the support of people like you, these children have a loving home and hope for an exciting future.
