Happy birthday from babies with love!

Happy birthday from babies with love!

We are proud to announce the first birthday of “from babies with love”, an online baby clothes shop which donates all of its profits to SOS Children!

The store, which can be found at www.frombabieswithlove.org, is the first retailer in the infant-clothing market to direct 100% of its profits towards the care of orphaned and abandoned children across the world.

After just a single year of trading, from babies with love is already using its profits to support six babies across Africa as well as in India and Brazil, including baby Mariama in The Gambia.

Mariama lost her parents when she was aged just two weeks old. Fortunately, SOS Children was able to help, giving her a new start with an SOS family in the Children’s Village at Basse. Living with her SOS mother, brothers and sisters, Mariama now attends the Village nursery.

From babies with love also donates its profits to support two nursery schools, in Zambia and Malawi, helping all the Village children get a great start in life.

An accredited social enterprise, the from babies with love offering is unique – customers buy a beautiful product while at the same time enjoy the knowledge that they’re helping babies who need their support.

Helping children in Basse

The SOS Nursery that baby Mariama attends is a valuable asset to the people of Basse. Less than half of children in the area attend primary school, while fewer still go on to secondary education. Amongst the adult population, only 1 in 5 women can write.

These worrying statistics make the nursery and primary school at our Village in Basse a hugely important educational resource for children growing up in the area. Of the 200 children who attend the primary school every year, about half come from the neighbourhood around the Village. Our support has enabled families from the local community to benefit from the education on which they would otherwise miss out.

Not only does the school here fill an educational gap, it performs to an exceptionally high standard. Two years ago, it received national recognition when it won the Ministry of Education’s award for best school in the region and the work of an outstanding teacher was also celebrated.

At the moment, Mariama is exploring the very beginnings of her education with little girls and boys like herself at our SOS Nursery. Thanks to our work in Basse, she can look forward to a fantastic education delivered by teachers dedicated to ensuring the very best for children like Mariama.

So thank you from babies with love for helping little Mariama enjoy the benefits of SOS Children’s care. To find out more about how you can help, read more about work in The Gambia...
