On the auspicious occasion of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's, gracious acceptance to visit SOS Children's Village Bangpoo, Samutprakarn on Wednesday, 13 June 2012 at 13:30 hr. In Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of SOS Children’s Villages Thailand, SOS Children's Village Bangpoo is the first project of SOS Children's Villages Thailand.
In this opportunity, HRH Princess Sirindhorn kindly gave the plaque to SOS supporters. HRH Princess also painted the picture gave to SOS Children’s Village Bangpoo and visited SOS families. Before departures, HRH Princess planted the Mahogany tree in front of the Office building, HRH Princess's visit brought the greatest delight for everybody in SOS family,
We also would like to share with you about other activities we served for our SOS family here as the following:
On 5 December 2011, we celebrated to great beloved King Phumibol's birthday, on 31 December 2011 we had New Year celebration, and in early morning of the next day, children and mother offered food to Buddhist monks as to do the first good thing of the new year. On 14 January 2012 we had 'National Children Day' celebration. In February, we celebrated 40 anniversary of establish SOS Children's Village Bangpoo. On 27 March, we set a moral class & recreation camp for our children who are in between six to eleven years, one program for them was an magical man show. On 13-17 April 2012 is a Thai cultural week celebration as we call 'Songkran festival', it is a Thai tradition New Year celebration, we celebrate this festival by splashing water to each other. The younger persons will pour perfume into adults' hands as to give respect. We also clean Buddha image and clean our house as a big cleaning day. The other source of this festival is; April is the hottest month of the year the original Thai people want to decrease from high temperature.
During the year we supported our children on improving their natural ability, they joined in singing contest, drawing competition, and computer competition, some of them got rewards. Those who did not get any reward got good experience and they learned to socialize to support their future development. In March, a number of our children went to a temple to learn moral and practice meditation, some boys took Buddhist-novice ordination period during their school vacation. We also participated in two special religion ceremony; on 7 March 'Makha Bucha Day', to praise our Buddha on his enlightenment and on 4 June, 'Visakha Bucha Day', to commemorate the occasion of Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing away at the same day. On 26-28 April, the whole SOS family went to a beach in Prachaubkirikhan province at southern of Thailand as a refreshing and relaxing time after long-term study. Although it took a long way from the village travelling by bus but the children were very happy to spend such a great experience together. They enjoyed sightseeing along the way and at the beach they enjoyed swimming, happily played beach games, digging sand, making sand-castle, running and lying on the white sand. The elder siblings let the smaller joyfully put sand cover their body. They laughed when they seeing their smaller siblings laughed. The smallest children who this time was their first experience at the sea looked rather anxious to the sound of sea, but after taking time they cheerfully walking along the beach. They laughed while the sea waves passing their feet or when their body rolling in the sea. At night many groups surprised with their talent performance.
All school aged children had returned to classes again since the second week of May 2012. The school performance and results are in generally good. We still provide additional classes on every Saturday and Sunday to support and to improve their school performance such as mathematic, Thai language and English language learning, art and handicraft, music and sport and computer. Some children got reward on their special ability: One boy was promoted to join in provincial football competition and the team got the third prize. One boy got the first prize reward from a quiz about today world's energy and environment problem at his school. One girl got a certificate of being an outstanding student from her school.
