Dear sponsor,

We hope that this letter finds you, your whole family and friends in good health! We are glad to share you with the information and activities concerning our beautiful village Ratanakiri during the last six months.

The village had inaugurated on 21 December 2011, and the children selection have been made by brought home to SOS Children’s Village Ratatanakiri up to 92 children include the 4 new admission in May. Out of these, there are 36 girls and 56 boys. There are 5 ethnicities among those children such as Khmer, Kring, Tumpourn, Charay, and Kachak. The youngest child is about eight months and the oldest is 11 years old. As we have been provided with all necessary needs to them so they always feel belong to their family and was not too long for them to adjust themselves into the new village environment. Proximally there are 9-10 Children living in each house among those 10 houses except the 2 separate houses will be used for the short- term temporary care expected to start earlier next month. The Mothers and Co-workers started to move into this new village since 15th August 2011. There are 10 mothers, 4 aunts and 3 acting aunts take care of children and 10 SOS families. We also strongly care for their health; we had done health check-up for them since the beginning up to now. We had done co-operation with the Health Centre, Government provincial hospital and Poly Clinic. Therefore their health is completely good. All the children are in different schools from Nursery to Primary school level excepts 7 children who are still staying with their mothers because their age have not reached to go to school. There are 33 children studying in Nursery level and 54 children are studying in the primary level. For their development the children practice various activities such as football and tennis this activities not only for fun, but also bond relationship in the village.

SOS nursery is in the village area which we can hear their voice which never quiet. The totally 83 pupils are attending in different levels and including 15 pupils from poor families from the local community who get a full scholarship such as school free, cloths and school stationaries. Our teachers have welcomed them with a nice smile, warm words with kindness. SOS nursery is operating two shifts a day, but has not offered lunch to children yet. They are happy to play game and toys with their classmate especially they enjoy swings and slides together.

Our 54 children are attending the primary school at the Government School at the next door of the village.  Due to the lack of teachers and classes, so the children study only one shift a day. The school principle has divided study hours for all children and can attend all together. As we have seen we will open the extra class for our children inside the village for the subject of Maths, Khmer and English.

On 8th March, is the International Women’s Day We had organized the trip for all aunties and mothers to visit the Nimith Resort which located in Stung Treng Province, far away from the village about 82 km and take time about 4 hours to go and back. This resort is a nice one with the decoration of the tree along the riverside, the stone inside and water fall. They were very happy with this view and take a lot of picture for their memories.

On April 26th, there was an event to commemorate 26h anniversary ceremony of the founder. We invited the monks and offered the food to them. This ceremony was participated by Co-Workers, Mothers, nursery teachers and all our children. After the ceremony completely finished in the evening we had organized the community dinner for all children and Co-workers. Furthermore, we also celebrated the Khmer New year in the village by organize the games for all children for 3 days which held from 9th to 11th April 2012 and at the last day we had organize the community dinner for all children and Co-worker with  the good atmosphere situation.
