Dear sponsor,

We are happy to give you recent information concerning our SOS Children's Village Phuket, the fifth of SOS Children's Villages in Thailand.

In our report at end of last year, we told you about we were finding for SOS Youth House as we plan to move our adolescent boys from SOS Children's Village Phuket who reach fourteen years old to stay.  In April our four adolescent boys have already started living there.  They are leading with two male educators.  This Youth House is about three kilometres far from SOS Children's Village Phuket.   It was the very new thing for everyone at SOS family in Phuket.  Six months before moving they spent every Saturday at SOS Youth House to get familiarity.  Here they can grow up more independently and learn how to become young adults and confidently integrated with the society while it is still possible for them to visit their SOS family at SOS Children's Village Phuket regularly and they are still being on full support from SOS.   Every Friday after their schools they make a drop playing football with siblings, have a talk, discuss, consult and they join in "Happy Friday" activity having evening meal with their SOS family before go back to Youth House at night time.  In every Friday night at SOS Children's Village Phuket we still go on the "Happy Friday" activity.   We set a night bazaar atmosphere for make fun, the village director prepares for a childish movie, the mothers and elder children prepare for food such as papaya salad, noodle, grill meat-balls, fried-chicken with sticky rice as well as snack and Thai dessert and herbal-drink.   We saw that our children enjoy very much with this kind of feast.  It supports them to tighten relationship.

The children’s results and school performance in generally are in satisfactory.   On every weekend we provide additional classes of mathematic, Thai and English learning, art and handicraft, Thai traditional music & international music as well as sport and computer.  The small children enjoy swimming learning very much.  Some children got reward on their special ability:  One boy was promoted to join in provincial football competition and the team was the winner.    One girl was a representative of all secondary school in Phuket to join in volleyball matches and her team was the champion.   One girl was selected from her secondary school to attend English language quiz and she got a reward.

We would like to share with you about what activities we had for our SOS family here:

Internal activities; On 5 December 2011, we celebrate our great beloved King Phumibol' birthday,   On 31 December 2011 we had New Year celebration and in early morning of the next day, children and mother offered food to Buddhist monks as to do the first good thing of the new year. On 2 March we invited the officer from Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to give education.   They set a disaster situation and trained our children and mothers to know on how to.   On 13-17 April 2012 is a Thai cultural week, as we call 'Songkran festival', it is a Thai tradition New Year, we invited community chief and adults from outside to join in this festival to tighten our relationship with the community.  We celebrate this festival by splashing water to each other.  The younger persons will pour perfume into adults' hands as to give respect.  We also clean Buddha image and clean our house as a big cleaning day. On 9 May, everyone helped together to plant elephant grass around the village to protect ground surface and we still promotes vegetable plots at village's backyard for sufficient life.  Whenever our boys are free from school they like to help on repairing basic household equipments.

External activities; Every Sunday from nine to twelve o'clock, our children attend meditation at a temple near the village.  On 14 January 2012 we brought our children to the beach as 'National Children Day'. In March, time for religion cultural; Buddhist boys took Buddhist-novice ordination period, Moslem boys attended circumcision.  On 24-26 April, the whole SOS family were very happy spending a great time at 'Tone Tae Waterfall' in Trang province, and at 'Khao Lak Beach' in Pang-Nga province.   They were enjoyable sightseeing along the way and they enjoyed swimming in natural water and sea water.  Before the trip our children excitedly packing and at the beach they happily played beach games, digging sand, making sand-castle, running and lying on the white sand.  The elder siblings let the smaller joyfully put sand cover their body.  They laughed when they seeing their smaller siblings laughed.   Though it took a long way from the village travelling by bus but the children were very happy to spend such a great experience together.

We feel highly grateful for your generous support, on behalf of everyone we would like to say "Thank you" for your contribution and for being a friend for our worldwide SOS family.
