Dear sponsor,

We are happy to give you recent information concerning our SOS Children's Village Hatyai, the second of SOS Children's Villages in Thailand.

Now, we are building "Retired mother house" at the back area of SOS Children's Village Hatyai.  End of this year an SOS mother from family house number six will reach her sixty years of age.   We are preparing this home for her and for the other SOS mothers who will be retired in next few years.  Those retired mothers will still living with us as "Grand-mother".

As we told you in our report at end of last that some family houses at SOS Children's Village Hatyai were damaged from the flood one day after New Year celebration and many things are muddy dirty.   Everybody in the village and our youth boys from SOS Youth House helped together to clean and move the furniture and any belongings to the same place.   This disaster made them realize to the love and harmony of people in SOS family.   Everyone helped each other willingly no matter how they were exhausted, they felt so happy to be a part that can help everyone in this hard situation.   In the present we have restored our appliances already and yes, there are many things that we need to buy new replace and repair the too damaged one.

We also would like to tell you to know about the activities that we had during the past months:

Internal activities:

On 5 December 2011, we celebrated to great beloved King Phumibol's birthday, on 31 December 2011 we had New Year celebration, but after the New Year celebration around one o'clock of 1 January 2012 the unexpected flood our family was very sad.  On 14 January 2012 we had 'National Children Day' celebration, in February some boys took Buddhist-novice ordination period, and those who are Moslem attended their ceremony.   On 21 March we invited the officer from Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to give education to our SOS family.  They set a disaster situation and trained our children and mothers to know on how to.    On 31 March-1 April we held a futsal competition.   On 13-17 April 2012 is a Thai cultural week celebration as we call 'Songkran festival', it is a Thai tradition New Year celebration, we celebrate this festival by splashing water to each other.  The younger persons will pour perfume into adults' hands as to give respect.  We also clean Buddha image and clean our house as a big cleaning day.  The other source of this festival is; April is the hottest month of the year the original Thai people want to decrease from high temperature.

External activities:

On 4-5 February our children joined in provincial football competition, they did not win but they got experience.  In March, a number of our children went to a temple to learn moral and practice meditation.  We participated in two special religion ceremony; on 7 March 'Makha Bucha Day', to prise our Buddha on his enlighten and on 4 June, 'Visakha Bucha Day', to commemorate the occasion of Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing away at the same day.   Two groups from SOS family Hatyai went to a beach in Phuket province as a relaxing and refreshing time after long-time study, first group went on 18-20 April and second group went on 27-29 April.  We were happy to see our children excitedly packing for the trip when reaching the beach they joyfully swimming, played beach games, digging sand, making sand-castle, running and lying on the white sand.  The smallest children who this time was their first experience at the sea looked rather anxious to the sound of sea, but after taking time they cheerfully walking along the beach.   They laughed while the sea waves passing their feet or when their body rolling in the sea.  Some elder siblings let smaller siblings joyfully put sand cover their body.   They laughed when they seeing their smaller siblings laughed.

All school aged children had returned to classes again since the second week of May 2012.  The school performance and results are in generally good.    We still provide additional classes on every Saturday and Sunday to support and to improve their school performance such as mathematic, Thai language and English language learning, art and handicraft, music and sport and computer.     One girl from senior secondary school got the winner reward from Art & handicraft competition, she has a lot of special talent in this field.   Another girl from university level, she got the golden medal (winner prize) from "Computer Adobe Photoshop cs 3".

We feel highly grateful for your generous support towards our village, on behalf of everyone there we would like to say "Thank you" for your contribution and for being a friend for our worldwide SOS family.
