Child Sponsorship Report 2012, from Yantai, China

A child sponsorship report from Yantai in China. This charity report covers the first half of 2012.

Dear sponsor,

It has been half year since I wrote you last time. I hope you and those around you are very well.

It is summer here and it is getting hotter and hotter. There are many beautiful flowers in bloom. The leaves of the tree is green. In the evening, kids go to the play ground and play games together. A lot of interesting things happened during this period. Here I would like to report to you.

SOS Children’s Village

At the beginning of the year, a lot of doctors from Yu Huangding Hospital, the best hospital of Yantai City came to our village. They brought us some medicine cost 10000RMB and donated 50000RMB to our village. The doctors stayed for a day and gave all the children and SOS mothers medical check. Through the check we found some children need new glasses. Some need to do more exercise or take vitamins. The doctors were very nice to the kids and they promised to come here regularly.

The mayor came to our village to see the kids during Spring Festival, which is the most important festival of the year. The mayor pays great attention to our kids. He always comes on some special days. The kids had great time with the mayor. They chatted and told stories about school, daily life and so on. All the kids got lovely gifts. A kid said that it was the best day ever.

On April 23, the World Book & Copyright Day, our kids were invited to the city library to attend a reading party. The kids were very excited. They had never seen so many books. On the party our kids performed an English poem reading, called “Forever Young”. The audience was deeply touched. At the end everyone got a book they liked as gift. Through this party our kids became to love reading and they spend more time on reading.

A famous painter visited on June 1st, the Children’s Day. She is a nice lady and she decided to provide each kid with one bag of milk everyday for two years. She is very generous and she cared about all the kids’ health. We appreciate her kindness.

On Children’s Day we had a big party for the children. The actors of Yantai Song and Dance Ensemble came here with great performance. The kids were so excited to see the actors they loved in real life. The party took two hours and our kids had great time.

We encouraged our kids to learn music instruments playing. An experienced teacher volunteered to teach our kids Jing Hu, a traditional Chinese instrument playing.  We also found a drummer to teach our kids. The kids got to know African drum and they were really keen on it. Through learning the kids became to love music and they become more optimistic.

Youth Home

The boys kept on serving community every weekend. They go to the old people’s home to take care of them.

The summer vacation is coming. Some boys plan to go back to hometown. The others hope to find some part time jobs.

Three boys took university exam in June 6. They just got the results which is good enough to get into university. We are so happy for them. Now they are waiting for the offer.

With your support we have done some work in this half year. Here I would like to express our warm thanks to you in the name of all the people in the village. We will work harder and harder in the future.

With best wishes to you.
