Child Sponsorship Report 2011, from Juliaca, Peru

A child sponsorship report from Juliaca in Peru. This charity report is from the end of 2011.

Dear sponsors,

Currently, the SOS Children’s Village Juliaca provides assistance to 718 children through 19 childminding programmes located on the edge of the city and 7 family houses in our new premises located in California de la Rinconada district. Our SOS Family Strengthening Programme has 19 childminding programmes where there is a Child Protection Committee capable of promoting and protecting our children’s rights. Due to this, the community has been empowered and we could reduce the malnutrition and family violence rates; we continue working on new agreements with local governments, the Ministry of Education, medical centers among other institutions in order to make families in extremely poor conditions achieve a better way of living which they deserve.

Everyone at SOS Children’s Village Juliaca is very happy and thankful about our new premises; we know this couldn’t be possible without your support and help. The opening preparations took around two months. Our co-workers team, SOS mothers and aunts worked really hard on every detail for the special day; our children were happy and excited to participate on the dancing and singing shows they prepared for their sponsors, delegates and everyone who was attending the event. Finally November 14th arrived with a nice weather. Among our guests there were people that contributed with our dream; as well as national, regional and local authorities. It was very comforting to see all of them gathering together for the same cause, and to see our children having a great time sharing and showing their artistic talents.

We also had the participation of children from the biological families of the childminding programmes who shared their knowledge about their culture, representative customs, and everything they learn on a daily basis at school. The event finished with the special lunch some SOS mothers offered to our guests who traveled from Norway to Juliaca to visit our children and share this special occasion with them.

Finally, we want to thank you for all your continued and invaluable support. Without your help, and the help of people like you, we simply cannot continue our lifesaving work.
