As the year comes to an end, with the festive spirit spread in the air, we would like to thank you for believing in our endeavour and lending support so as to enable us to make a significant difference in the lives of innocent children who have been robbed off the safety and sanctuary that is provided by the family. We the members of SOS Children’s Village Bangalore would like to come together in expressing our gratitude for your benevolence, on which thrives our efforts. Following is a brief overview of the work that is being done in the village.
SOS Children’s Village
Presently there are 165 children in the village belonging to various age groups. All of them are receiving education and it is heartening to note their progress. While the x and xii standard board exams saw hundred percent result, some young adults are acquiring university level education in various disciplines and passing with flying colours.
Apart from being promising students, some of our children are also shining in extra-curricular and other talent based activities. One of our girls studying in class III participated in the 5th International Level Science Talent Search Examination 2010 conducted in the school and secured 1st position at the School Level.
Sound health of our children, mothers and co-workers is of paramount importance. Regular health check ups along with provisions like Free Dental Camp organized by Karnataka Marwari Youth Federation, Mobile Dental Camp and ENT camp was organised by Vismaya ENT Clinic.
In order to ensure and facilitate a holistic development of our children, we had provisions made available for conducting special events like sports meet, personality development workshop, art and culture related activities, painting competitions, career guidance workshop, Child Right’s Workshop, Yoga sessions and so on and so forth.
These events happened various times in the course of the entire year and were conducted by NGOs, news channels and other organisations.
We also observed days like Mother’s Day, SOS Day, Republic Day, Ganesh Chaturthi, Raksha Bandhan to name a few. These and other such occasions/activities will most certainly go a long way in inculcating in our children a spirit of healthy competition, leadership skills and team work. Alongside enhancing their individual talents and capacities it will also polish their social and communal skills.
Family Strengthening Programme
The FSP is our approach to make positive interventions in the lives of families with children who due to various practical constraints cannot be brought under the fold of the SOS Children’s village. At present we are supporting 475 children out of 245 families. Various workshops were conducted for the caregivers and the beneficiaries under the FSP. These included workshops of study skills, child rights, efficient parenting, assertive communication, financial literacy women’s health and balanced food practices. A Medical Camp was organized for all the FSP beneficiaries on 14th August 2011. Other than that, World Earth Day, World Environment Day and Independence Day were observed.
All in all it has been a fruitful and rewarding year for the children and workers at SOS Children’s Village Bangalore. This letter was a small attempt to keep you abreast with the constructive work that was put in. It wouldn’t have been a success without your generosity for which the SOS family along with the children are indebted.
