Dear sponsor,

One of the most beautiful seasons of the year summer has arrived with warm and beautiful weather to “SOS Children’s Village Almaty”. And through this report we are delighted to inform you about the recent changes and events that have taken place in the life of our village during first six months 2011.

Before going further we would like to take this chance to thank you sincerely for your finding opportunity to contribute to the life quality improvement of orphans and children deprived of parental care. Despite difficult financial situation whole world faces, you do help significantly to make our kids happy, to fill their hearts with love, care and belief. Since it is very important that children know they are not alone, they have not only SOS families, but someone else to make their dreams come true.

At present there are 60 children (30 girls and 30 boys) under the care of 11 SOS families.

SOS families get constant support according to standards of Individual development planning process. We are having various activities with various groups of children in order to motivate their attitudes and skills in different areas such as sports, education, etc. Our teenagers regularly receive trainings on such topics as children’s rights and responsibilities, moral and ethical values, etc.

One boy Aisar took part in a local instrumental competition ‘Mirym’ in May and took the third place. The other republican competition ‘Tan-Sholpan’ was held in May in Astana (the capital). Aisar won the first place and two girls of our village also won the first places: Aliya - in singing and Svetlana - in fine arts.

14 pupils are going to enter the universities, professional lyceums and colleges this autumn. Now they are preparing for entrance exams. Small children are enjoying their summer vacations; for instance, go to cinemas, summer camps, museums, parks, zoo and other entertainment places.

Six village youngsters will move to Youth Home I in this year. Two young girls from this Youth Home moved to Semi-Independent Program this year. At this moment there are 14 youngsters in Youth Home - 9 girls and 5 boys.

In Youth Home II there are 18 youngsters; among them 6 girls and 12 boys. They live very friendly. All youngsters are planning to work in summer period. Some of them already started working as promoters, waiters and waitresses, and etc.

Our Family Strengthening Programme continues its work. The number of children - beneficiaries is constantly increasing. Now there are 210 children from 151 families. They are provided with medical assistance, psychological consultations, food packets, etc. The quantity of sponsors who help FSP is increasing, too.
