A child sponsorship report from Itahari in Nepal. Written in 2010.

Dear Sponsor,

Another year has passed at SOS Children's Village Itahari with mix results and time has come again to cherish the by-gone days and to make planning for the next year. Thanks to your continuing support to needy children living under our care, these children are growing happily in a family environment. We are trying our best to provide love and care in a loving & caring environment. This will ultimately make them build a strong foundation and independent future. We are very much aware that this would not have been possible without your generous support. Therefore, we want to express our gratitude for your help and your faith in our work.

Currently, 147 children, 88 boys and 59 girls, are living under our care in our 14 families. They receive quality education in SOS School Itahari, which is located within the SOS complex. A total of 550 students, from Village, children from Family Strengthening Programme, local communities, attend this school. SOS Youth Home Biratnagar, the extension of SOS Itahari where our adolescents are prepared for their final integration into the society. Presently, it has about 100 youths under its care.

Besides the support to children who had lost the parents and support, SOS Itahari is also taking care of children who are at the risk of losing parents and their care through Family Strengthening Programme. It has been one of the major projects of the Village. It covers various activities, such as family support (Nutrition & financial), educational support, sustainable housing, micro finance and emergency relief etc. This programme has proved very successful in keeping family intact, which we believe the first requirement of the children to grow up safe and happy in local environment.

On June 23, we celebrated the 24th SOS day. On this occasion, friends of SOS were invited to our Village for the interaction and celebrate the happenings. Our staff and children had prepared a cultural programme to welcome them, and there was also blood donation and peace march in Itahari.

Unfortunately, the political situation in Nepal is not yet stabilized, however we are not directly affected. Despite these difficulties, we commit ourselves to continue providing a safe and peaceful home to the children in need of our support and to making a secure future possible for them. Your support is and will always be imperative to reaching this goal, and therefore, once again, we would like to thank you very much for your continuous support to us.

Yours sincerely,

SOS Children’s Village Itahari
