At this time of the year, we would like to describe once again concerning latest progress about SOS Children's Village Chittagong and its ancillary projects.
SOS Children’s Village Chittagong
SOS Children’s Village Chittagong is a home for 118 children. We have received 8 new children during June 2009 to May 2010. 5 girls have appeared at the Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC) 2010 and 2 girls at the HSC (Higher Secondary School Certificate) examination 2010.
We have celebrated the International SOS Children’s Village Day 2009 in a befitting manner 17th - 27th June. 17 of our girls attended the Yellow Birds Camp in a local Girls High School on 11 July 2009. Workshop on Child Protection was held on 24 July 2009. Our children celebrated and joined 'New Year 2010, speech on Career Planning, 'Healthy Living Habits' Foundation Day of SOS-Chittagong, International Mother Language Day, International Women’s Day, Bengali New Year, death anniversary of Professor Hermann Gmeiner etc. enthusiastically.
SOS Youth Village Chittagong
Our 26 boys are residing at SOS Youth Village Chittagong. Our 4 boys appeared at the Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC) 2010 and 3 boys at the HSC (Higher Secondary School Certificate) examination 2010. Different occasion were celebrated gorgeously with active participation of our youth.
Vocational Training Centre Chittagong
There are 30 students (15 Carpentry Trade and 15 Light Engine Mechanics Trade). Industrial Visit of the students was arranged on 12 November 2009.
There are 270 students in SOS School Chittagong. Among them 80 are our children and 190 children are from community. 22 of our students sat for the Primary Education Completion Examination 2009. 21 got 1st division and 1 got 2nd division. Two of our students got Talent Pool scholarship and 1 got general grade scholarship. We have organised Hermann Gmeiner Scholarship Giving ceremony on the 20 February 2010.
SOS Social Centre Chittagong
Social Centre provides Day Care Facilities, Tailoring and Embroidery Trade, Basic Clinic for poor people, Free Preventive and Curative Treatment for the women and children, Skill Training for the women to generate family income. Through Family Strengthening Programme we have been providing opportunities for the children who can not afford to go to school for general education. Now there are 493 children in Family Strengthening Programme, 457 are in education. Children are getting tutorial support, food and medicine through the Programme. 41 children of Family Strengthening Programme passed the Primary Education Completion Examination 2009 and one boy got scholarship in talent pool grade. Their mothers are also supported by us through training on sewing, mushroom cultivation etc.
