As the mid year 2010 turns, we have a great pleasure to express our grateful thanks for your generous and continuous support to our SOS Children’s Village Savannakhet and in this occasion we would like to present our progress report on some recent events and development in the village to you.
Since the end of year 2009 until the beginning of 2010 the economic crisis made the impact in the worldwide and Laos was one of them. Savannakhet province, is located 490 km far from Vientiane Capital city and prominent by a famous bridge which provides a good relationship between Laos and Thailand, especially between Savannakhet and Mukdahane.
Our SOS Children’s Village Savannakhet is the junior of 6 SOS Children’s Villages in Laos, located 9 kilometers far the town, surrounded by big trees which could provide some shady places for our children to do activities on holidays and in weekends such as cleaning off the play ground, playing football, volley ball and games. For this year the climate is almost occupied by the dry season.
At present our 114 children enjoy living and growing up in the familial atmosphere full of love, respect and security. All of them are healthy and under the good care of 10 SOS mothers and 4 aunties. They enrolled in different classes of primary school which is located in the town. Just right now our children are on 3 months school vacation from June to August and some activities will be organized for them such as to prepare the X-Mas cards, to learn making the flowers pots on cement.
The special activities in mid April were known as the 3 day celebration on Lao New Year in Lao Tradition Costume. In earlier morning of 1st day, the programme was started by giving alms to 5 monks who were invited from different temples, then followed by a Baci Ceremony which mothers, children and senior persons wished each others to have strong health and peaceful life. On second day of this Water Festival the children and mothers enjoyed playing with water at the river and on last day altogether went to pagoda, poured the Buddha images, worshiped from the sacred to have a peaceful life.
To improve the basic knowledge on our vision ‘Who We Are”, Child rights and Child Protection, the monthly seminar was held regularly for SOS mothers, aunts and co-workers and sharing the experiences how to educate and take care the children in good and right way.
SOS Nursery has provided 80 kids in which 25 came from ours and 06 small children from the very poor families become a scholarship. The provincial board of Nursery teachers visited our SOS Nursery to share experience.
Dear Sponsors and Dear Friends, on behalf of our children, village mothers-aunts and all of us here, may we take this opportunity to send you our deepest thanks with great gratitude for your kindness. Your generous support and kind help are meaningful so much for our children. You have given them the new life and the good future. We pray in every evening for all of you to have a strong health and a peaceful life.
With our best wishes and kindest regards,
Dr. Daovone Choumlivong
