Dear Sponsor,

Warm Greetings to you from SOS Children's Village Trichur!

As you deserve to receive updated information regarding your sponsored facility we are writing this progress report.  Before we go any further, we would like to convey our sincere thanks for the love and care you are ever providing to us. 

Since 1983, our village is serving for the humanity with a noble cause with an infrastructure of 17 family homes, staff residence, a Nursery, dispensary, computer lab, library, sports room, Community House, Village auditorium, Village store, basketball court and playground. Today we are proud to say we have 306 children (157 girls 149 boys).  220 are in the roll of Children’s Village and 86 youngsters are living in SOS Youth Homes. Another 23 youngsters are leading semi-independent life. During these six months we were able to bring home 18 children and they are doing grand.


We have continued working hard in advancing our children with quality education.  Out of 220 children 185 are attending various schools.  We are glad to inform you that during the academic session 2009-2010, 95% of our children are passed to next classes. Nine girls have successfully completed schooling and soon will join for higher studies in various fields like Engineering, Nursing and Mass Communication.  28 girls are attending universities to their tastes.


We are proud of the achievements of our children who are showing excellent performance in basketball. One of our girls, Geetha member of Kerala Basketball team won National championship in June 2010 and got selected to National Camp. Another girl Rosmy, member of Kerala Basketball team got selected to National Camp and also she played in Professional League tournament at Mumbai. Two girls attended the District sports council selection camp and got selection to Kerala Sports Council, Kollam. Seven of our children played in the State sub-junior Basketball Championship, in which Thrissur district came first.  Another two girls also played in youth Basketball championship representing the Thrissur District in which we became runners up in the tournament.


To make children’s life more interesting, purposeful and to promote their development a lot of activities and events are organized within as well as out of the Village. It was a great opportunity for our children to present a group dance and a drama in front of a proud audience that was later telecasted on TV on the Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. Our seven Children participated in Sahityolsavam (creative writing) and Sargolsavam (Arts) Competitions organized by The Daily Malayala Manorama, Balajanasakyam.  It was a great opportunity for our children as they could compete with highly talented children in the district. We have organized various summer camp programmes for children to strengthen their skills in various aspects.

Settlement of Youth

We are very proud to share with you that so far 118 youth are settled in marriage and 86 are settled in job. During these six months 9 youth settled in marriage.  Now all are leading a happy life and used to visit Village on special functions and celebrations.  One girl started working as beautician.  Four boys and 17 girls used money gift for various purpose purchase of house, going abroad, marriage and house maintenance.


We have celebrated traditional and religious festivals like Republic Day, Vishu the New Year day  of Kerala,  SOS Day,  Holy week Easter and Mothers Day. Holy week was celebrated with all its importance; families were on lent for 50 days to prepare for Easter with all its divinity.  On Maundy Thursday all Christian families took part in the traditional customs of sharing last supper Pesaha milk and bread.  On Good Friday all the family members took part in the Way of the Cross.  And on Easter all family members attended mid night prayer and Holy Mass at Parish St. Patrick Church.

SOS Youth Home

Currently 86 youngsters, live in SOS Youth Homes.  42 are attending various schools and 44 are pursuing higher studies.  It is our pleasure to share you that in the academic session 2009-10 all school final boys passed out with excellent marks. The boys attended workshop on child rights, personality development, career guidance, how to face exam and goal setting.  We have organized exposure camp on inter state culture at Kerala Tamil Nadu boarder, life skill camp, retreat, summer job, spoken English classes and computer training for youth.

Family Strengthening Programme

We are supporting 278 families including 509 children under Family Strengthening Programme.  For independent living and overall development of these beneficiaries we have organized awareness programmes, medical camps, workshops, seminars, career guidance, creation of employment opportunities, classes on women rights, child rights, effective parenting, adolescent issues etc.  They are encouraged to start income generating units. They attended skill training on textile printing, soap and detergent making, umbrella making, pickle making etc. and getting good earnings from the same.

Children are coming up well in life with your kind support.  We would like to thank you for being all these years together with us, for helping and supporting the facility.  We are sure you will also follow all our steps to build decent life of children.  Your help is really very important and needed for us.
