Dear Sponsors,

We are happy to update about your sponsored Home, SOS Children’s Village Hyderabad.  Your generous support gives us strength and support and we would like to share the progress in our village during the past six months.

A Home for Many Children

Ten new children (6 girls & 4 boys) were brought home during this period.  All the children have adapted well to the village environment.  The youngest baby is now one and a half year old healthy baby.  At present total strength of the village is 148 (66 boys and 82 girls) children are living happily under the loving care of 12 mothers and 2 aunts.  Out of 148 children 41 children are in boarding schools, 103 children are attending outside schools and 04 children are at home.

The Children’s Village has 12 family houses, activity hall, moderately equipped Clinic, Community and Guest House, three Co-worker residences and a Village Store.   The learning centre with Music Room, Computer lab and a library is the place where children are enjoying their leisure time.

Academic Performance

We are proud to inform you that all our children excelled well in academics and are promoted to next higher classes respectively. Their over all performance is excellent. We are very happy to inform you that our first girl child completed Intermediate with First Class marks. Three children have scored first class marks in SSC Board Exams. 20 of our children have passed with distinction marks and other children passed with 60% and above marks.  We have engaged regular tutors to help children who are weak in studies. Spoken English classes are being continued for children above Class IV with help of a resource person. We also engaged special teachers for drawing, art, dance and yoga.

All the children are maintaining good health and their growth is being monitored regularly in the village clinic except for minor illnesses at times.  Special Medical camp was held in the first week of June. Thorough dental check-ups were carried out for all.

SOS Mothers

Children are being looked after by 12 loving SOS mothers and 2 Aunts.  SOS Mother’s Day was celebrated on 10th May 2010.  All the mothers were greeted by the children. Mothers were taken for outing to a fantastic place, ie., RAMOJI FILM CITY, the largest film studio in the world which is placed in Guinness book of world records.  A number of fun games were also conducted for mothers.

Festivals and Vacations

During summer vacation different useful activities were organized in the village like drawing and painting competitions, crafts classes, music and dance classes, debate, quiz, hand work, Rangoli.  Children from the hostels also joined and had great fun in the village.  All the elder children were taken to a seven day excursion to Tirupathi, Srikalahasti and Kanipakam, the famous ancient temples in South India. Children had exposure to the places of historical importance and spent jovially in sight-seeing.  All the major festivals of the region were celebrated with lot of joy and happiness.

Family Strengthening Programme

Family Strengthening Programme work was started in the year 2007 in SOS Hyderabad.  Presently we are supporting 178 families and 350 children are supported under this programme and are happily attending schools. Special Medical Camp was arranged for Family Strengthening Programme beneficiaries and Comprehensive Medical Check-up was done for all.

Finally, we are happy to share our mixed feelings with the high summer temperatures and  unexpected rains in middle of summer and the monsoon setting in early this season.

We once again thank you for your generous support and hope for ever lasting relationship. SOS Family, Hyderabad conveys our best wishes to you and your family.

With Warm Regards

M.G. Ramesh Kumar
