SOS Children’s Village Tsumeb is pleased to share with you some of the events during the last few months.
Presently our SOS Children’s Village accommodates 91 children in the 10 family houses and 16 youths in the youth homes, which consists of a SOS girls Youth Home and SOS boys Youth Home.
Our children participated in early Easter celebration organized by the Good News Bible Club. They all enjoyed the events as they were told the meaning of Easter and were given presents in form of sweets and cool drinks.
Our SOS Nursery has three classrooms and accommodates 112 learners from the community and 7 children from our SOS Children’s Village. The nursery teachers are also assisting the SOS Children’s Village with the afternoon classes for some of our SOS children.
One youth, from the SOS boys Youth Home, participated in a school debate last year (2009) and he was one of the best in the Oshikoto region. He was therefore chosen to go to Sweden to take part in a workshop on Economics and Climatic Change. This young man had a very interesting trip and learned a lot participating in the workshop.
On the 23 June we always celebrate, our founders, Hermann Gmeiner birthday. This year the young boys and girls from the SOS Youth Homes decided to do community service at the old age home. They assisted the old people by cleaning their rooms and spending a day with them. This contribution was very much appreciated by the elderly.
The Family Strengthening Programme assists the children in the community who are at risk of loosing their biological parents or families. The Family Strengthening Programme is currently assisting 529 beneficiaries with food parcels, access to medical services and education.
Our National Director, Mr. Leonard Diergaardt who has been with SOS Children’s Villages Namibia, for the last 12 years, left end of June 2010 and we like to welcome Mr. Philip Damens, as the new National Director.
Once again our team at SOS Children’s Village Tsumeb wishes to thank you for your ongoing support without which any of these would not have been possible.
