A child sponsorship report from Yantai in China. Written in 2010.

Please note: This report may have been written by someone whose first language is not English.  We have left it largely unedited, as this is how a sponsor would receive it.

Dear Sponsor,

Our children are very well these days. We have organized some activities for them and the children had a lot fun. Here I would like to report our work to you.

First of all, we took in ten children, including 6 boys and 4 girls. 5 of them come from Lhasa, Tibet. All of them get well on with their new family. At present there are 113 children in the village, including 61 boys, 52 girls. 7 youths have finished education and found suitable jobs. They will leave our village in July. Five youths got married and bought small apartments.

Secondly, ten of our children took the high school entrance exam. Six of them have passed the exam and they will enter high school. The other three will enter vocational school to learn some skills. Two children took the university entrance exam. All of them have got enough scores for college. We are happy for them and we hope they could get the letter of acceptance soon.

Thirdly, we had the 61th Anniversary of SOS Children’s Villages on June 22, 2010. We held a great party on a square outside the village to celebrate the anniversary.  The children prepared wonderful performance, such as singing, dancing and so on. We also invited some guests, including heads of some local departments, some sponsors and the neighbourhood. This is the first time for us to hold a party outside the village. A lot of people watched our performance and they were moved to tears. The party was a great success and it was reported by some newspapers and television stations.

Fourthly, we will organize some children to Shanghai city to see the World Expo. The World Expo is a big event in China. Our children are very excited and they want to get an opportunity to see it. The SOS Children’s Village Association found a sponsor and he would like to support some children to Shanghai. 6 children have got the opportunity and they will take off soon.

Fifthly, we built a new playground for the children. The playground is huge and our children like it a lot. They play basketball, tennis, and badminton after dinner everyday. The SOS mothers also come here and do some exercises. We also planted some beautiful flowers in the village and our village is getting more and more beautiful.

Sixthly, the children had dental examinations in June. After examination we found many children have teeth problem. We took these children to dental hospital and all these children got medical treatment.

Finally, a girl was sick with appendicitis several days ago and she had to stay in hospital for a week. The girl felt very uncomfortable and upset at the beginning. Her SOS mother stayed with her and took good care of her. We went to hospital to see her everyday and she recovered soon.

With your support we have done some work in the first half year of 2010. Here I would like to express our warm thanks to you in the name of all the people in the village. We will work harder and harder in the future.

With best wishes to you.

Yours Sincerely,
Wu Housheng
Village Director
