On 12 October 2010, Oscar-nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and her actor-husband Peter Sarsgaard visited the SOS Children's Village Alibaug in Mumbai to celebrate its opening. Dignitaries, children from the community and representatives of SOS Children's Villages joined them for the festive occasion. The Village, which is the 32nd SOS Children's Village in India, was established thanks to the generous support of global lifestyle brand Esprit; of which Gyllenhaal is a brand ambassador.

A loving home for 44 children, the SOS Children's Village Alibaug spreads across three acres of land amid serene surroundings. "It's a privilege for Peter and myself to join hands with Esprit and promote the remarkable work of SOS Children's Villages, which for the past sixty years has continued to provide children worldwide; love, security and a nurturing environment that only a family can provide," said Ms Gyllenhaal. The children and SOS mothers of the Village welcomed Ms Gyllenhaal and her husband in the traditional way with costumes, music and dancing. Maggie Gyllenhaal SOS CV Alibaug Mumbai 2

Dr Christian Gruenler of SOS Children's Villages, who was also present at the opening, said that we all share in a common commitment to help eradicate child poverty in developing countries. Ronald van der Vis, Esprit's Chief Executive Officer, said, "For the past four decades we've been supporting social institutions and projects that work with children, irrespective of nationality, faith or background. We are delighted to have the support of Maggie and Peter, who both share our philanthropic values and our commitment to social and community issues." Finally, the Director of SOS Children's Villages India expressed hope that establishing this third SOS Children's Village in the state of Maharashtra would be a great support to the children in need who deserve a chance for the future.
