Cambridge launches first CSR Forum

A group of entrepreneurs are about to launch Cambridge’s first ever Corporate Social Responsibility Forum which will bring together local companies to share thinking and practice on how best to align values and behaviour with the needs of their stakeholders.

A group of entrepreneurs are about to launch Cambridge’s first ever Corporate Social Responsibility Forum which will bring together local companies to share thinking and practice on how best to align values and behaviour with the needs of their stakeholders.

The first of its kind, it is hoped the Forum will initiate an open and honest discussion which will help drive the social responsibility agenda forward.

The Founder Partners involved in organising the Forum are ARM Ltd (who are also sponsoring the inaugural event), 2Cs Communications Ltd, NW Brown Group Ltd and SOS Children UK. They have secured the support of highly regarded speakers including Graham Baxter, CEO of the International Business Leader’s Forum, Head of Sustainable Business at Marks & Spencer, Mike Barry (personally recommended by Sir Stuart Rose for this event) and HSBC’s Head of Sustainable Business, Simon Martin.

Co-organiser, Kathie Neal, Director of Development of SOS Children UK, says while large companies are now expected to have CSR firmly on the agenda, all companies need to be thinking about it actively: “Some companies get involved in CSR because they have to, others do it because of staff or customer pressure, and some because they have a CEO with a terrific sense of social responsibility across the entire product chain, including their staff!  We are on the crest of this CSR wave and the interest in it is very high at the moment, so we want to capture this energy and drive forward active management of issues as well as idea generation and implementation.“

The Cambridge Responsibility Forum launch event is a one day gathering on Monday 18 October 2010 at Clare College, Cambridge. CEOs, HR Managers and COOs, amongst others, from a wide spectrum of businesses are invited to attend. The organisers hope participants will get a snapshot view of the full spectrum of CSR; share ideas with other companies, and learn how to successfully implement various aspects of CSR back in the office.

However, although a one-day event, the organsiers do not intend this to be a one-off. They also plan to run a series of regular sharing groups that meet two or three times a year on specific CSR themes. More details to follow.
