A child sponsorship report from Rajshahi in Bangladesh. Written in 2009.

Dear friends,

Another precious year from our life is going to be over. We have been trying our level best to renew our commitment to the children entrusted to us. Of course you will like the following information on SOS Children's Village Rajshahi on the eve of Merry Christmas 2009 and Happy New Year 2010. We are confident and hopeful in getting same type of cooperation and support from you in the years to come.

Including new 10 children, now the Village is a home of 163 children including 20 children who are living in outside boarding houses. 19 Youngsters have been living in SOS Youth Village Rajshahi and 53 youngsters are residing in boarding houses. This year 11 children appeared in Secondary School Certificate examination, on the other hand 2 children appeared at the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination who have come out successfully. This year we have successfully organized 10 marriage ceremonies: 02 boys and 8 girls. So far, 91 girls and 103 boys have integrated into society through marriage and employment.

Our children are skilled in different creative and cultural activities. They staged a fascinating cultural program in the mango orchard of SOS Children's Village Rajshahi to celebrate the advent of New Bengali Year 1416 through songs, recitations etc. We observed the International SOS Children's Village Day in a befitting manner. Weeklong programs (June 15-25, 2009) including sports competition, tree plantation, integrated children’s get-together and grand cultural show were held. Elites including City Corporation Mayor and high government officials attended the programs. The International Women’s Day  and Mothers’ Day was observed in a befitting manner. Elder girls and SOS mothers took part in the program enthusiastically. A workshop on Self Evaluation was held in April. Two of our SOS mothers have been awarded SOS Ring by the Honourable President of SOS KDI Mr. Helmut Kutin.

Some 520 children from 353 families are under the Family Strengthening Program (FSP) through SOS Social Centre. SOS Social Centre also launched Skill Training Program for the women to generate family income.

We must acknowledge with gratefulness that all the above achievements made possible through your generous support and contribution.  With our best regards, love and prayers; wishing your good health, peace and happiness.

Yours sincerely

Village Director
