A child sponsorship report from Pune in India. Written in 2009.

Dear Friend,

Wonderful year 2009 is about to pass and 2010 is round the corner.  Once again it is time to wish you and your near and dear ones – A MERRY  CHRISTMAS  AND  A VERY HAPPY  AND  PROSPEROUS  NEW YEAR.  It’s also time to take stock of the year 2009 and plan for 2010. 


Presently there are 198 children, 112 girls and 86 boys, in 20 family homes under the care of their loving and dedicated Mothers. 5 youngsters joined Youth House and  four girls joined Girls facility this year. 13 new children were brought home. They have well settled in their families and village environment. They also made new friends in the village.


We are very happy to share that this year 95% of our School going children passed their annual examination and were promoted to the next  higher classes.  Our girls in Std. X & XII did exceptionally well in their Board Examination. All of them passed out with flying colors. Two of them were admitted for Diploma in Fashion Designing, another two selected to do Interior Designing and yet another two joined course in Basic Animation.  Three girls were admitted in Polytechnic College for three year Diploma in Information Technology. Three girls joined College for two year course in Arts and Commerce. 

Other Facilities in the Village

We have a Medical centre in the village in which children can get primary treatment with help of residential nurse. A part time visiting doctor has also been engaged.  A new washing center has been started in the village. Four heavy duty washing machine have been installed. It has made mothers washing job much easier. Soon two more machines will be installed.

Sports and Extra-Curricular activities

Our children also did very well in Extra-curricular activities, 30 of our children are attending martial Arts classes in the Village. 27 girls appeared for exam in classical dance called “Bharat Natyam”. During summer vacation our children participated in Summer Camp organized in Aurangabad.  The 15 days camp was full of excitement & thrill.  The Children visited various places of historical interest like Ellora caves, Daulatabad fort, wind mills and Dam. Children also learnt about different careers, study skills, personality development, good manners and good handwriting through enrichment sessions.

Festival of colors Holi, festival of lights- Diwali, Gudi Padwa. Gudi Padwa means 1st day of Marathi new year. Gudi Padwa is a symbol of victory of lord Rama. On this day we gives best wishes to each others. Sweet dishes made by mothers in all families.  We also celebrated National Days, like Independence Day & Republic Day were celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and joy.  Mothers Day, SOS day and Children’s Day also provided  lot of opportunities to our children to show their talent in music, singing, dancing, elocution & sports etc.

Enrichment Sessions

Two days workshop was organized in the village for the Coworkers.  Strategic objectives, additional objectives and Performance Management System were taken up for the workshop. Two more workshop have been planned on ‘Child Protection Policy‘ & ‘ Who we are’. Three days  refresher training for mothers has been planned for 3rd to 5th Nov. 2009.

Youth House

We have 54 youngsters on our roll, 30 of our youth attending High School, 10 are attending University courses and 13 are getting vocational training. Most of our youth did well in their academics as well as in co curricular activities. A session on career counseling was organized with the help of a resource person. One of our boy Santosh was awarded “Deshbhushan “ award and the best student award by his college and the university respectively. 21 of our girls are in Girls Facility and studying in University & doing Vocational courses.  8 boys have completed their apprenticeship. They are employed in well known companies. Three boys have joined as sales representative, three girls joined as Nurses in reputed hospitals. One girl joined as teacher and a boy joined a well known BPO company. 


Swine Flu spread in the city. One of our girl was diagnosed positive but after taking necessary treatment and precautions she is cured. She is now keeping good health. Many programmes related to health care like of Hepatitis A,B, MMR and Typhoid were organized. General medical check up, eye & dental camp were also organized. Mothers and Children of family strengthening programme also participated in these programmes.

Special Donations

Tata Communication from Pune donated Sport Equipments for Children. One of our sponsor helped us to install “Drip irrigation system” in our village campus. One group of youngsters from Pune donated blankets for all children in the village. One of our donor donated FM radios and Emergency Batteries for 20 family homes.

Family Strengthening Programme 

We have been supporting single parent (Mother) headed poor and vulnerable families.  We provide a package of services including financial support to enable these families to attain self sufficiency and take better care of their children.  We have covered 121 families and their 250 needy children. Hepatitis A,B, MMR and Typhoid vaccination camp was organized for all FSP children.  Children went to Saswad Balgram and Balaji Temple for picnic. A session on ‘How to be prepare for exam & how to write exam paper, was organized for FSP children with the help of a resource person. We helped FSP mothers to put up a stall of sweets during the Diwali festival. We organized a seminar (Balanad Melava) for children in which they have lots of fun.
