Dear friends,

Thank you very much for your moral support and kind contribution for the betterment of this Village and we hope this letter will find you in a good health. We have crossed a half of the year. As the time has passed; many activities passed with it. Today we are sharing some of them in our short summer report. Time gave us a new hero in sports arena, this new sport star shone during Paralympics Game that took place in Kathmandu at National Stadium from 28th to 30th June 2009. Our junior star Ajaya B.K. grabbed two gold medals in 100 and 200 meters sprint. Similarly Siddhartha, Maiya and Ramesh stood second for silver medal in 100 meters race and javelin throw respectively. Likewise Karuna and Bishownath stood third for bronze medal in 100 meters race and Javelin throw respectively.

In academic side, all children completed their academic year 2008/2009 with good result and have started new session 2009/2010. Recently the result of School Leaving Certificate examination came out. This year a student was appeared in the final examination and he passed securing 79.55% marks, just 0.45% short for the distinction. For the further study he is planning to join one of our SOS Schools in management stream, aiming to be a Charted Accountant.

Youths in both facilities are doing equally well in academic performance. Senior girl Jayanti became a university graduate and has started to work in a NGO as a volunteer social worker. She is supporting the media team in awareness campaign in the field of disability. Other girls, Anita, Geeta and Rajkumari are doing well in bachelor level. Amrita’s final examination of higher secondary level is just over and is waiting for the result. During this two months gap she is planning to join in language classes. Hira and Parwati have joined class 12.  Manju, Saraswati Aryal, Narbada Acharya and Saraswati Shah are in the process for the integration.

Within this six months we were able to welcome only one little girl from town. Including her we have 42 children in the five family houses and 30 youths in two different youth facilities.

On 30th January 2009, all the family members from Village, and youth facilities went for a picnic to "Ichangu Narayan" which is located in the North-west part of the Kathmandu valley. The place was very nice and beautiful with Hindu temples and religious environment. They enjoyed the annual program with various activities. Another attraction of the picnic was the "Bingo" most of the children, youths, mothers and other co-workers fully enjoyed playing Bingo. It was organized by the children’s club for the fund raising purpose for their social works.

Holi is the great festival for Nepalese people. Children never want to miss the opportunity to play with colors and water filled balloons. It was celebrated on 10th March. It was very interesting to see everyone wet with water and colored faces. Mothers were also busy to keep water and other colors in stock so that their children can enjoy the festival properly.

Mother's day is one of the most special days for our SOS families.  Celebrating the grandeur of ‘the Mother’, on 25th April, all youths from youth facilities and some integrated youths came at the village to wish SOS mother and take blessings from them. All the mothers of different families whole heartedly welcomed all their sons & daughters, Children were also happy to share their days with their senior brothers and sisters.

SOS Day is a very special day for us. This day, we remembered and paid homage to our founder father Prof. Dr. Hermann Gmeiner to cherish among ourselves. This year, we celebrated differently than previous years; we invited guests from outer community requesting them to be a helping hand of our social work. We also started making friends and sponsors from the outer community. During the program they were informed that their valuable contribution will be used for the scholarship and funding of education to less privileged children in the outside community who desperately need educational support. People from different part and level of community were gathered.  Chief Guest our National Director Mr. Shree Shanker Pradhananga also made the event very lively and made it memorable. At the function he appreciated the initiation shown by the friends and sponsors for the better future of abandoned and vulnerable children. Later small award ceremony was held, in which Mr Pradhananga presented various awards to the children who showed best performance in their academic and over all activities. This year best house award was given to House no 4 based on the voting of children themselves. In the second phase of the program, various performances were presented by children for whom all the guests and participants admired and clapped to encourage.

Dear friends, we feel honored to share the overall activities of our facilities. On behalf of all the members, we are very much grateful and thankful towards you for everything that you have provided to us in carrying forward our welfare works. We hope to get your full support as always. We will always remain with our best wishes and warm regards.

Sincerely yours
