The year 2009 has opened another phase for SOS Children’s Village Cebu as it continues to tailor developmental opportunities to our 149 children and youths. It was indeed a fruitful start for the whole family with activities laid out the first half of the year. Allow us to inform you on how it unfolded.
As usual, the Village is full of life and occupied with training sessions and various activities that enhance the personality of our children and young adults. Regular child care conferences and family conferences were conducted as well as the visits of the family house to the Youth Village. We are also visited by different socio-civic organizations as well as private individuals. We are thankful and happy that there are people who recognize the efforts of the Children’s Village.
In February, five (5) youths had their Sacrament of Confirmation while fourteen (14) children had their First Communion. These sacraments are important parts of us Catholics, embracing the “gifts” given by Jesus Christ, the Savior. Moreover, in joining the rest of Christendom in April, about sixty of our young men actively participated and led the celebration of the “Via Crucis” (Way of the Cross) at the Celestial Gardens. This is to celebrate the beginning of the Lenten Season.
For the lighter side of the summer, some fifty (50) children enjoyed the weeklong summer camp in Oslob that had about 1,000 children-participants under the umbrella organization of the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children headed by the First Lady of Cebu Mrs. Margot Osmeña.
Ten interested youths joined the first ever National Youth Congress held in Davao City from April 19 to 26. “Adventure of a Lifetime” was the theme of the SOS National Youth Congress organized by the National Training Center of SOS Children's Villages Philippines to gather 70 youths from the 7 Children’s Villages in the country. Activities focused in honing their personalities and the individualistic phase of every village was vividly seen in the entire assembly of young minds.
These activities keep us on our toes and bring us deep satisfaction in serving the needs of the children and young people under our care and custody. You may not be here but the stewardship that you bestow on us through your generous contribution and ever growing concern, inspire us to do our best for these children. In behalf of the whole SOS Cebu family, our sincerest gratitude for your continuing support! We also wish that every child under our care will always be blessed with humility and grateful heart to all the people who made a better place for them – just like what you did for our SOS family!
With warm wishes and best regards,
