We have 139 children, 14 mothers, 5 aunts & 12 co-workers in the village. We feel very pleased to share you the news that our children are doing well, they are growing healthy & look happy. The eldest girl has completed Staff Nurse Course & the youngest boy now studies at Nursery. The educational achievement of all 139 children is significantly better. A total of 138 children study at our SOS School. This year Barsha Kandel became 2nd in class 2, Rajesh Bhujel 3rd in 7, Topala G. C. 2nd in 4, Bikash Pandey 1st in 5, Arjun Gyawali 1st in 6, Niruta Devi Kumal 3rd in 1, Anjana Paudel 2nd in 5 & Ashok Sharma Paudel 1st in 2. These children were taken to Sauraha trip for elephant riding as a reward. Our children in the “Little Champs Club” organised the festival celebrations like: Saraswati Pooja in January, Sivaratri in February, Holi in March, Nepali New Year Celebration in April, Mothers’ Day in May, Bhanu Jayanti in July, Children’s Talent Show in September on the occasion of Children’s Day & Dashain Tihar Special Program in October. The 2nd Executive Body of the club through election was formed in June. The newly elected committee of the club arranged a week sports events for all the children to joyfully mark the 23rd SOS Day on 23rd of June. The club published the first issue of the magazine “The GlORY”dedicated to the auspicious occasion of 64th Birthday of honourable President Mr. Helmut Kutin & it was released by himself on September 10, 2009. Our children have received a number of awards in the open competitions held in the district like: Chandra Sintan stood 1st in Kick Boxing organised by Nepal Sports Federation Makawanpur in January, Sanjaya Chhetri stood 1st in Municipality Level Art Competition in January, Laxin Pariyar & his friends stood 2nd in Open Singing Competition organised by Kalika F.M. & District Education Office in September & Rajesh Bhujel & his friends stood 1st in Open Folk Dance Competition on September 11 & Nov. 30 separately organised by District Education Office & Chitwan Industrial Festival.
The 51st National Executive Committee Meeting of SOS Nepal was held in Bharatpur in February. On September 19, a local farmers’ “Dairy Co-operative” held its General Assembly in our school hall & the assembly highly praised the work of SOS. We organised a 4 Day Workshop on “Child Protection Policy, Child Rights & Responsibilities & Child Participation” to FSP beneficiaries, our children, child club members, mothers, coworkers & school parents. We took the club children for an Exposure Visit to a neighbouring Local Club in April & senior children went to a tour to important places in the country like: Gorkha, Pokhara, Palpa & Lumbini during their summer holidays in June. On January 17, Minister for Science & Information Technology visited the village & greatly appreciated the SOS set up. We received a gracious visit of Mr. Helmut Kutin, President, SOS Children's Villages International along with the Austrian delegates from September 9 to 11, 2009.
Our SOS Higher Secondary School has grown fully fledged already with the classes running from nursery to Twelve with a total of 545 students. The school has its appreciable academic, indoor & outdoor activities & has become very popular in the community. It is fully committed to the Quality Education to the children. The school published its annual result in April & the result was excellent in which the overall 94 % students passed their grades. In the District Level Examination result of class Eight, out of a total of 38 students, 27 came out with Distinction and the remaining 11 with good First Division, in the SLC result of the second batch students, of a total of 34 examinees, 23 got distinction and the rest 11 the First Division & in the recently held Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) result of class 11 in November, of a total of 28 examinees, 10 got distinction, 16 1st division & 2 the second division. The school gives scholarships to the meritorious & needy students of each grade every year.
Our SOS Social Centre Bharatpur has been rendering mainly 5 different services like: Day Care Service (to 30 children from poor families), Scholarships (as an educational support to 289 children studying at local government schools), Free Medical Care (to 100 FSP beneficiaries per month), regular Adult Literacy Class (to illiterate elderly women) & Academic Classes for Deprived Children. All these services are aligned with the Family Strengthening Program (FSP).
