Dear Sponsor,

It seems that Christmas time is here once again, and it is time again to bring in the New Year. Here we would like to extend our warm wishes for the holiday season and would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. We also would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support over the years. In the past year we have done some work as follows:

First of all, we keep on organizing our children to do some volunteer job, such as cleaning the park, helping the disabled and so on. Our children learned a lot from this and they cherish their happy life in the village much more than before.

Secondly, we invited some psychiatrists to the village to help the children. Some of our children have been through great pains and they are very depressed when they come to our village. To help them recover quickly we invite professional psychiatrists to talk with them. We also contact the professors of a university nearby to give lectures to our children and play group games with them. These treatments were very helpful for them to rebuild their characters.

Thirdly, H1N1 goes all around the world this year. Some of our children got flu and did not feel well. We paid great attention to these children. The SOS mothers take children’s temperature everyday. Once we found any child sick we took them to hospital as soon as possible. Three kids had to stay in hospital for few days. Their SOS mothers accompanied them and took good care of them day and night. The children recovered soon.

Fourthly, we took our children out for sightseeing in the summer vacation. We took some well behaved children to Yishui City for a summer camp. The children stayed there for two days and had a lot fun. We also took all the children to Penglai City to visit the largest aquarium in China. The children saw penguins, polar bears, dolphins and all kinds of fishes. They were very excited.

Fifthly, some of our children attended Jackie Chan’s concert. In September Jackie Chan, the international Kongfu star came to Yantai City for his concert and he invited our children to take part in. Some children are big fans of him and they were excited to meet him. Jackie Chan was really nice to the children. He sang a song especially for the children and our children performed together with him. The children also saw a lot other stars. They played games together and made friends.

Sixthly, we held a SOS Mothers’ Cooking Competition in the village. All the SOS mothers took in the competition. They were required to cook four dishes in 20 minutes. All the mothers cooked delicious food and the children and guests shared the food together. The competition was a great success and the SOS mothers improved culinary skills.

Finally, we took in 6 children, including 5 boys and 1 girl this year and they get well on with their new family. At present there are 113 children in the village, including 72 boys, 41 girls. 10 youths have finished education and found suitable jobs. They will leave our village in July. Seven youths got married and bought small apartments. Ten of our children took the high school entrance exam. Seven of them have passed the exam and entered high school. The other three entered vocational school to learn some skills. Three children took the university entrance exam and entered college for further study.

In 2009 our children learned a lot and improved a lot. Here I would like to thank you for providing them the opportunity to live in the big SOS family.
Again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Yours Sincerely,

Wu Housheng
