Dear Friends and Sponsors,

Christmas and New Year season has been approaching, children and mother are cheerfully decorating their houses with fantasy colorful paper and cleaning house surrounding,  'May the year 2010 bring inspiration and happiness to you and your family'.

At present, we have 128 children; 73 boys and 55 girls.  We are planning to have SOS Youth House for teenaged boys above 14 years to move living in next year.   Since Chiang Rai provice locates at the North of Thailand, the weather is very cool at this season, many small children are sick by cold fever.

Some children were selected as representative for their schools to join in community events.  And we are very happy that our children in primary school & secondary school got good scores for this semester and we could see the development of small kids who are learning basic knowledge from SOS nursery.  We go on giving extra tutorial classes, plus with arts-learning, Thai traditional dance, native musical, and we made excursion trip to museum, library, local park and for this term we also promote for herb and home-grown vegetables planting inside the Village to realize on living in economical way.

● SOS-Day 23 June 2009, for this year it was a very special time since we celebrated 60 Anniversary of SOS establishment.   In 2002 SOS received the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize and in 2009 we received Save the World Award.   The mothers expressed their feeling on how pride on being SOS mothers.   The talent children present Thai traditional music and beautiful Thai performance to celebrate this SOS day.

● A religious ceremony on 'Buddhist Lent Day', 8th July 2009, this traditional was an annual rainy season retreat in Thailand, in ancient time most of Thai people were farmers, all monks spent 3 months in permanent dwelling to avoid unnecessary travel during this period because they might destroy the young-plants of the farmers by accidentally step on when travelling.   We offered the Buddhist yellow robes, giant candle and other necessities things to the monks for using in 3 month-period.  At the temple, children and mothers helped cleaning and developing the area, listened to Buddhism sermon, received precepts from monks, then attended a three-round candle light procession around the temple for making meditation and peaceful in mind while walking.

● The National Mothers' Day, Thai people celebrated our Majesty the Queen SIRIKIT as the mother of country on her birthday at every 12 August.   For our SOS family it is the most important day among the year, the day meaning itself on what the great SOS mothers have been dedicating their life to our children.   The celebration started from morning, we gave rice and dried-food to 3 monks receiving food offering, next everybody paid respected in front of the Queen's portrait followed with Thai traditional dancing performance, and native musical play.  Children gave their mother jasmine (symbolic flower, white color mean pure), at this moment children and mothers expressed their love to each other with tears flow.  All afternoon, children enjoyed with games till lighten the candles and sang a royal song to the Queen in the evening.

Before the children returned to school in second semester, we provided a sport-competition on 21 October 2009, the athletics children actively practiced, while the girls mindfully focus on cheer team, all mothers disorderedly giving supports to their children.  They got a lot of fun at the day.
