Spurs' Gomes provides a link to SOS South Africa
Heurelho Gomes joined young students from the St Francis de Sales RC Junior School on Monday of World Orphan Week (8th Feb) in the Spurs Learning Zone at White Hart Lane to launch an online link between Spurs and the SOS Children’s Village in Rustenburg, South Africa.
The Spurs’ shot stopper worked alongside students in writing blogs and messages for orphans in Rustenburg as part of the Club’s relationship with the South African village. The software will be used to provide direct communication between students using the Spurs Learning Zone, students in the SOS Children’s Village in Rustenburg, and also members of the First Team.
Heurelho Gomes, the Club’s ambassador to SOS Children, said “The Club has a longstanding relationship with the SOS Children’s Village in Rustenburg, and although the village is on the other side of the world it’s fantastic that we can now communicate and send messages. The Foundation visit the SOS Village in Rustenburg each year with young people from the local community and now those relationships can continue when they return.”
The Spurs Learning Zone, which is managed by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, is the Club’s computer suite located at White Hart Lane that providing computing facilities for young people in the local community. SOS Children has been the Club’s global charity partner since 2007 and the Club has helped fund and construct the charity’s orphan village in Rustenburg including the development of the Tottenham Hotspur House. The 'Spurs House', which is uniquely funded by monies received from player’s fines, now provides orphaned children in Rustenburg with a family they can call their own.
