A child sponsorship report from Iloilo in the Philippines. Written in 2010.
Dear Friend,
Warmest greetings in behalf of the 134 children and youths together with 31 Mothers, Aunts and Co-workers of SOS Children’s Village Iloilo! I am pleased to inform you of the latest developments in the Children’s Village for the first semester of the year 2010.
Valentines Day was then celebrated last February facilitated by the Socio-Cultural Committee. It started with a trivia game about Valentine’s Day. Then there was a guessing game of popular love songs. The celebration ended with dancing performances from the whole family.
Moreover, our children and youths proudly received special and academic awards during the recognition and graduation day last March. There were 28 graduates: six in Nursery, 16 in Elementary and six in High School.
The months of April and May were the peak of summer fun in the village. Sportsfest 2010 highlighted the activities. Everyone was divided into four teams to compete in various event and literary contest. Youth girls and boys enthusiastically gave their best in every team to train our smaller children in all competitions.
In April also, we commemorated the death anniversary of our founder, Dr. Hermann Gmeiner. The programme started with choral singing followed by floral and candle offering. Each family house assigned a reader to read some inspiring quotation of Lolo Gmeiner while the Village Director talked on the great works of our founder. The celebration was jointly organized with the Spiritual Committee of the neighboring community.
Thank you very much for your continued support and generosity. Your unwavering enthusiasm and faith in the silent but fruitful works of SOS Children’s Villages particularly here in Cebu has kept us going in our efforts to better the lives of the underprivileged children in our society. May you and your family continuously be blessed with abundance in life.
With warm wishes and best regards,
Renie Masongsong
Village Director
