Child Sponsorship Report 2009, from Malakal, Sudan
A child sponsorship report from Malakal in Sudan. Written in 2009.
Dear sponsors,
It is my pleasure to send you our greetings from SOS CV Malakal , for your great support, we were encouraged to say clear and big no to abandonment and sufferings on the other hand a big clear yes to good health, love and schooling.
As SOS Children’s Villages is a home for the Orphans and the abandoned children. It is now a home to 89 (girls 40 ,boys 49) children after taking 18 youth both girls and boys to SOS youth houses this year. This year eight boys were accommodated outside the village in the neighborhood, but ten girls were to stay inside the Village in the former house of the village father for time being.
During the whole year there were some mild cases of children’s ill-health although we lost three young orphans who were recruited with ill-health. We had no serious cases of Malaria due to our concern to cleaning the Village environment for a voiding the breeding places of mosquitos and other harmful insects..
Unicef also supported the SOS Children's Villages, with mosquito nets. This year had witnessed a number of gifts from NGOs and religious organizations such as food items clothes, toys and two bulls for the Muslim feast of Aid adha El Mubarak. The UN day celebration was also done in the village and was attended by the Government ministers, UNMIS and large number of UN- Agencies and NGOS .
The SOS Children also participated in the disable day celebrations on 7/12/2009 and the UN-human rights day on 10/12/2009 here in Malakal. Our children and their mothers very much enjoyed the UN day Celebration and the NGOs and CBO activities in which our children participated well in drama, songs and traditional dances.
As our SOS activities include education, our children are doing very well in schools and we support them with additional evening classes in the village..
Our children’s activities also include agriculture and the this year had witnessed a good yield in maize and green vegetables which they planted with their mothers. UNMIS show movies for the children’s every Sunday evening .
We are now accepting new children for occupying the places of those who had gone to the youth facilities and hope to complete the required number within a short period of time.
Thank you very much for the support of our orphans and the abandoned children and we remain to reminding you that you continue to be the only window for their survival. The family of SOS CV Malakal wish you all, a happy X-Mass and Prosperous New Year.
With my kind greetings ,
Akwoch Dok
Village Director,
SOS CV Malakal
