Gaza Blog: Tahani finds a new home
A group of three children were left alone following a fire at their little house in the Gaza Strip. The house was made of palm trees and the fire was caused by extreme heat. Their mother died from severe burns and the father suffers from Schizophrenia and couldn’t take care of his family any more. The children, including “Tahani” (9 Years Old) became homeless and started to move around from one place to another. The became hungry, thirsty and were living in dangerous conditions.
That was 9 years ago in one of Gaza’s poorest neighborhoods. Today, Tahani and her brothers have a new home in the SOS Children's Village. When they first arrived, Tahani was suffering from nervous trauma, her brother Mouneer (5 Years Old) was very thin because of the hunger that affected him and her brother Saher (3 Years Old) was crying all day long. Many volunteer doctors and Psychological experts from the Village and from a local university had kept the three children under Psychological and Physical therapy for almost four months.
Soon, Tahani and her brothers showed signs of improvements. Tahani started school and started taken private lessons to help her catch-up on what she had missed during her therapy. Tahani became very popular among her friends in the Village. She felt safe when she saw that her brothers are ok now and they also had joined school. They have all learnt to swim and they like to spend their vacation on the beach along with their friends from the SOS Children’s Vilage.
Two months ago, Tahani decided to marry an Art teacher. A week ago, the SOS Children’s Village announced the wedding and a large crowd of neighbors and friends came there to congratulate them. Mouneer and Saher will lead the Folklore dancing Band that will play happily for the bride and groom.
