Christmas dreams and wishes
Christmas dreams and christmas wishes are shared by children from the SOS Children's Villages Quito, Ecuador and Tbilisi, Georgia.
Christmas star dreams
"Oh! Little star: I wonder who you are and I wonder if you could stay with us at Christmas time," tells little Jessenia (eleven) while reading a Christmas story. She is a young story teller from SOS Children' Village Quito, Ecuador and, below, you can enjoy one of her loveliest Christmas stories.
It was one day before Christmas Eve when I asked my mummy: "Can we catch the star that appears up there in the sky every night? … right there, behind the mountains?"
My mother, with a mix of smile and irony, answered: "That star is much farther than what you think. It will be impossible for you to get it."
The next day, I insisted on asking: "Can we spend the night over there, behind the mountains, so that we can catch the star as it comes out? We could take it home in a bag. We can hide it in a place where nobody will be able to see it. The star won't bother anyone and, maybe, we could build a house for it, something similar to what I did for Shisuka (a cartoon character). Remember mummy?"
My mother laughed as much as she could, but, tenderly, putting her hand on my head, she whispered: "Maybe one day."
The next day, I kept on insisting. "Mum," I said. "The star won't be like Shisuka. It will be more polite and will surely help us with its energy. Whenever we are cold, it will give us heat; and if we all wish, it will become brighter and brighter."
This time, mum didn't answer.
Soon Christmas Eve arrived and after all the usual activities for the night, we all went to bed. That night, I had a dream. I dreamt of a beautiful voice that spoke to me, saying: "Hey! When you wake up, next to your bed, you will find a big tree, full of stars. Then you can give them out to all the people you love, passing in each star the great power of light energy."
I think I woke up immediately, and to my surprise, the voice was not lying. Next to my bed, there was a beautiful tree with lots of shining starlets. Of course, I felt like the happiest girl in the world. I thanked God for the gift and for the voice, but I specially thanked my mum for having given me her love and understanding. I just said: "Thank you very much for the gift mum!"
And because the tree has many, many stars, there is still an extra one waiting for you!
Christmas wishes from Georgia
From the heart of the Caucasus come the Christmas messages and wishes of the boys and girls from SOS Children's Village Tbilisi, Georgia.
Salome's Wish
Christmas to me means good time spent with my entire family.
For Christmas we decorate our house with coloured lights and shiny decorations and a tall beautiful Christmas tree. This is what every child in my family loves to do. My [SOS] mother makes tasty Christmas dishes for the celebration.
On Christmas we forgive our friends and family for any misunderstandings or disagreements we might have had and get their forgiveness as well, so that we can all have a clean start in the following year.
On Christmas we understand that behind all the fun and decorations, there must somehow be a message, something more, some key to life, hope and happiness.
My Christmas wish is to always be happy and to accomplish my goal of becoming a model and having a good future. I wish that my family and my SOS mother would always be happy and that they would never be sick. I am thankful for my family, my life and for my friends who have always been there for me.
For this Christmas I wish to have a mobile phone of the third generation. This would surely be a great surprise for me.
I want to wish every child in the world a joyous Christmas and a very happy New Year.
May all their wishes come true!

Miranda's Message
The Christmas season is my favourite time of celebrations. It is time for traditions like baking cookies, decorating the tree, decorating the house and having a family get-together. Enjoyed by children and adults, Christmas is the most popular holiday of all in my country! I can't wait for Christmas to come!
On Christmas day the holiday spirit is noticeable in all twelve houses of our SOS Children's Village. Everyone here spend weeks planning the celebrations. I love presents, but most of all I love making surprises for my dearest people and see their happy faces.
On Christmas you start thinking about the year that comes and hope it'll bring better life, joy and happiness.
As for Santa Claus, he was my favourite childhood hero. I don't believe any more that Santa exists (and I say nothing to the little ones), yet he still remains my favourite character. Yes, I still write my letters to Santa and still hope they will come true. Only now I know that I don't only have to be good, but I also have to work real hard to make them come true.
My Christmas wish for many years has been to have my own music studio. And if I work hard enough... well, I hope it'll come true.

Anna's New Year's
December... Strange feelings of expectations are related with this month. Expectations of what? I ask myself, I am exited, my heart beats quickly. Christmas and New Year are coming soon!
The streets and the shops are decorated with Christmas trees, colourful lights and ornaments. The trees are decorated with little light bulbs in different colours. They look so fascinating! Like ladies dressed for a grand ball. The smell of cinnamon is in the air.
These sweet holiday feelings make me very happy. I always greet New Year in the house I was born in, in one village outside Tbilisi. When I am on the way to my village I always wish for snow and usually my wish is granted. I can't keep my eyes off the trees dressed in soft white coats. I am speechless at the great beauty.
When I come to myself, my eyes turn to the white houses. They are waiting for the New Year too. Smoke comes from their chimneys and crawls up the sky filled with stars. This smoke reminds me of my little house where the fire-place is blazing.
I step inside the yard of my house where my little dog meets me happily wagging his tail. Something makes him happy too, probably he also feels a magical season is approaching.
The house is very warm. Decorated Christmas tree spreads forest scent. Just two hours to the New Year. I sit by the fireplace. My dog sits next to my feet. I warm my cold fingers. I don't want to move. I gaze at my mother who is busy making food. I feel unspeakable bliss. I could sit silently in this position for an eternity.
It's 11 o'clock. Half past 11. I watch the door as if the New Year would walk in. Suddenly I am startled by the fireworks outside.
Midnight! The New Year is here. Mother kisses me and gives me traditional Georgian sweet made of nuts and honey. She says to me the Georgian proverb "Have such a sweet future life, my dear!" We sit around the table. Just the two of us: No, no, just the three of us. My mother, I and the New Year.
The spirit of New Year is in our souls and around us. We forget the sorrow and all difficulties of the past time. The spark of hope burns is our hearts. I think and wish: "This year will be better for me and for my mom."
May the wonder of Christmas shine in your heart and bring warmth to those you love!

Eto's Message
Oh, it's so cold already! My hands reddened and my nose as well. The trees are without leaves and almost naked. They look so very sad... Why has the weather changed? Winter is coming isn't it? It has forced itself through the autumn warmth without invitation and took over the skies.
But, winter also brings a lot of joy and happiness. Winter isn't as gloomy as it seems to be. If you make a photo in the winter you could see an overwhelmingly beautiful white scene: quiet environment, beautiful sky, happy children and adults in cheerful mood.
The most important part in the winter is the first snow and the Christmas celebration. Playing with the children, skiing, skating, snowball fight are great fun. Then comes the magical Christmas Eve!
It is a night of love, happiness and joy. Is there anything nicer than when the clock hands come together at midnight and a new time of success and hope comes into your life.
Then there's Santa Claus! We call him Father Frost in Georgia. He is an inseparable part of Christmas for the children. Every Christmas I can hardly wait till the morning to open my present. I always wonder what present is waiting for me.
Beautiful Christmas tree, streets decorated with different coloured lights, singing cars and unusually perfect general feeling. This is Christmas and New Year in my Tbilisi!
Happy holidays!

Lile's Wish
Christmas is when somebody gives presents to someone else. Christmas is when you celebrate with your family.
This Christmas I would like to get a photo camera, because I want to become a good photographer and take lots of photos of everyday life and people, of animals, nature and many interesting things. For my (SOS) mom I wish happiness and good health and I want people to take care of themselves this Christmas."

Nona's Wish
I am always very excited when Christmas approaches because we always get presents that we like. We always write our wishes on paper or cards and put them under our pillow the night before Christmas. And the next morning we find our presents under the Christmas tree.
This Christmas I would like to get shoes that turn into skates when you push a button. This would make me so happy.

Anna's Wish
Dear Santa,
I am so excited about you coming to our house this year. We have put up the tree and decorated it with lights, beautiful lampoons and other ornaments. I think I have been a good girl this year. I hope you will bring me a Barbie doll and a Barbie house this year. I also hope that you can bring me several clothes sets for the Barbie. I will leave milk and cookies for you. You will really like my mommy's cookies. I hope you stay warm and safe on Christmas Eve.
Oh, we don't have a chimney in our house. How will you get in?
Your friend,
Anna (7)
Nika's Wish
Dear Santa
My name is Nika, but you probably know this already. I don't have to think hard about what I want this year for Christmas.
I know I didn't do to so well in school this year, but I give you my word that I will try harder. That's why I hope most of my wishes can come true. I really wish for several rugby balls and footballs, because I like both sports and want to play with my friends.
I was wondering, what do you do on the other 364 days of the year? Are you busy making the toys?
Merry Christmas Santa!
Your friend,
Nika (7)
Luka's Wish

For Christmas I want you to surprise me! Last year I also asked for a surprise I got a very nice one. I liked it a lot. I hope you get me a good surprise again.
