Update for child sponsor supporters from the SOS Children's Village Curico, Chile from Winter 2008.

Dear sponsors and friends,

We are already in the month of November, and like in previous years, there is much to count. We want to emphasize the welcome of new children, all very small. What it surprises more is its easy adaptation and the welcome that prepares all the family to him: each Mother and all the brothers take pains in decorating their new piece, to choose a tuna gift, to decorate with globes and to prepare rich things to eat for this special occasion.

Many children, in spite of their short age, have lived already in different places, they arrive afraid and distrustful, and this welcome makes the first day easier. Our mothers - and the brothers majors collaborate in this have the arduous task of re-educating, of instilling and to form habits, beginning by the cleaning, to regulate the hours of dream, the meals, hours of study, etc. and at the same time many children learn to enjoy for the first time the games gladly that correspond to their age.

Some of our mothers have participated again and with great interest of the processes of studies in center of Formation of Mothers the SOS, oldest, sharing its experience, and all learning new techniques for him handling of the diverse situations that must approach, like also renewing its commitment with this beautiful but also difficult task. The children (ace) and young people, must count on spaces that take care of their real needs of cultural development, sport and relaxation outside the school. We want to emphasize that the children and young people have the possibility of acceding to factories of scholastic reinforcing, deports, and next of English and manualidades. All this with the aim of developing and fortifying the diverse aptitudes and abilities of our children.

The factory of English will be carried out during the summer, because nowadays, the English is a language that acquires importance more and more. English that offers our schools, schools and Grammars school are not sufficient. In addition, we have a group of 49 children and children between the 10 and 14 years of age, with which the subject of the social abilities is working. Our objective is to develop to the maximum the potential that the children bring with himself, reinforcing its values, harnessing its self-esteem, so that more ahead they are able to participate and to make decisions on his life and can be inserted in the society in independent and conscientious form.

A great joy gave one us of our young people: Jose arrived at the 11 years to our Village, introvert, of very good feelings, affectionate cooperator and. One adapted very well to his new familiar surroundings, enjoying the common activities, demonstrating many personal resources and resilientes abilities. His spirit of overcoming was more well-known even though entered the School the International in Costa Rica, product of a scholarship obtained thanks to his effort and good academic yield.

Jose, who at the moment is of return in our Village and studying Engineering in Construction, postulated by Internet to a scholarship in the United States, being accepted by the Methodist University of Carolina of the North. He divides the 5 of January, and once there, will be able to choose the race to study, that surely will be related to Architecture. Jose is granted a scholarship until year 2013. Now he is worried to improve his knowledge of English. Without a doubt the history of this young one fills of pride by its spirit of overcoming and desires to us to leave ahead, is an example of which the dreams can become reality with the personal effort, the support and love of our families.

During the past vacations, some of our children passed days next to their family of origin, after a long process of approach, task noneasy to assume on the part of their Mothers of Village, through those who the children perhaps felt the necessary love and cares for the first time so that this bond lasts and grows. But simultaneously it cheers to us that, since their families are now in conditions for assuming the responsibility, some children can return and grow next to their biological family.

We are near at the end of the year, we concentrated in the conclusion of the scholastic year and the proximity of Christmas, occasion in which great and small they decorate his houses with great enthusiasm, from the tree to the manger, in which by the smallest tradition of the house it deposits to the boy Jesus at night after the 12 of day 24. Smallest they wait for anxious the arrival of the pascuero viejito, that defrauds never them: in spite of the heat (in December we are at the height of summer) it appears with his long white beard and its windbreak I brought red, loading a coat with treats and gifts.
