Child sponsorship update from the SOS Children's Village Rivas, Nicaragua from Winter 2008.

Dear Friend

It is a pleasure to send you the first facility report of the SOS Children’s Village in Rivas; I hope you are fine in family union and at work as well.

We had 46 children in June 2008 living in 7 SOS homes maintaining the same quantity in July, in August and September we had 47 children in 7 houses, for October and November we have 64 children in 11 homes.

The main activities of this second period of the year was the celebration of the children’s day, that day we had parties with piñatas and contests where children shared a lovely moment inside the village, besides that, they participated in infantile carnivals promoted by the mayor’s office and MIFAMILIA ( an institute which in charge to supervise the children’s rights in Nicaragua) with children of several neighborhoods and schools in the central park of the city of Rivas, this permitted the experience exchange of villagers with other children of the local community, we also participated in float parades ( a truck full of beautiful flowers ) where we had the opportunity to perform our own float.

14 and 15 of September we celebrated our patriotic days, all the children participated in parades promoted by our local schools. On November 10th, we had the nationwide election of municipalities, and I have to say that we had several struggle between the Liberal and the Sandinistas’ party in which the gainer surely gain under false pretences.

On November 11ty, we carried out the opening of the SOS village with the presence of the president of the nation Mr. Daniel Ortega and the President of SOS Children, in these event assisted members of the board, representatives of national institutes, and local and national NGOs, we also had the presence of Village Directors, SOS Mothers and children of the SOS Programmes.
