Sponsor a child Kavre, Nepal

Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Kavre, Nepal from Winter 2008.

Dear friends,

First of all I would like to wish you “MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009” on behalf of all the children, mothers, aunts and coworkers of SOS Children’s Village Kavre. This festival may bring you happiness, good health & prosperity.

We are having very wonderful climate these days. New coalesce government with elected members has formed and the main mandatory of this government is to write down new constitution for New Nepal. People are feeling peace and satisfied with the act of the new government.

We have just celebrated our two greatest festival Dashain & Tihar. Hindu people celebrate Dashain in the memory of “Victory over evil”. Here the children of this village had celebrated it by receiving blessing, good wishes and putting tika on their forehead from their SOS Mother and Village Director. We have also celebrated Tihar (festival of light) for five days. The last day of this festival is also known as “Brother’s Day”. It is celebrated by openhanded best wishes, and prays for long lives of brothers by their sisters.

Now these days we have 142 children in our village, who are doing well as per their best capacity. This year we have admitted the youngest child named Sachetana of age 5 days only. The president of ‘Creative Child Club’, Deepak Gautam has got opportunity to take part in National level workshop on Child Rights & Participation. Our village daughter Nira Thapa succeeded to grab 4th position in ‘Kathmandu International Marathon’, in 5 km category. We SOS Kavre family felt very proud by her achievement.

On the auspicious occasion of National Children’s Day, SOS Children’s Village Kavre had jointly organised “District Level Inter School Singing Competition” with District Child Welfare Board. The program succeeded to spread the message of the activities of SOS Children’s Village Kavre. The families supported under Family Strengthening Programme (FSP) are doing well.

The opening program of SOS Youth facility Kavre building has been planned for April 2009. About 85% youths were successful to pass 12 grades with good marks and they have planned for higher education according to their aim and interest. Besides this they are doing volunteer works in different institutions and organisations which will helpful to build up confidence for their future career. This year, 6 youths are reunited with their biological family.

SOS Secondary School has succeeded to run grade 12 in Management stream. The school’s success rate in terms of quality education is found well this year.

Finally, we are very grateful on your generous support. Without your support quality care for these needy children is almost impossible. So we wish your supportive feelings on forth comings days also.

ONCE AGAIN “MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009”

Sincerely Yours

Karma Lama
Village Director
