Gaza Blog: Diyaa’s Pranks
“Where is Diyaa ?” The youth’s leader asked while they were having dinner, “He was here a while ago” they answered, as usual; the leader called the security guard at the gate and asked him if Diyaa had left the village, but the guard deny that. Everybody left the dinner table looking for Diyaa all over the village but they couldn’t find him, the leader ordered everyone to search every room and closets in the youth’s house, suddenly!!, one of the youths shouted “ He is here”, Diyaa was hiding in one of the closet in one of the rooms at the youths house, Diyaa’s short figure make him easily do such thing.
Before Diyaa’s arrival to the SOS Children’s Village along with his brother “Ihsaan (12 years old)”, and sisters “Amani (11 Years old)” and “Kefaya (9 Years old), his Mother died suffering from cancer and he lost his Father in a car accident, all of the sudden they found themselves without someone to care and look after them, so they moved to live with their uncle who he was unemployed and he lives of the supplies vouchers that he gets from the (UNRWA), therefore he couldn’t provide them with the proper type of food and clothing.
Diyaa started to skip school and spends his day hanging out in the streets, and if he feels hungry he would just go to the dumpsters to find some leftover foods to eat, sometimes he used to bring some rotten or expired food to his brother and sisters and that caused them to get poisoned, so they got transferred to the hospital in a case of food poisoning, after they got discharged from the hospital they went to their uncle house where the life of hardship and poverty, Diyaa kept on skipping school and going back to the dumpsters until the SOS Children’s Village got to them.
The SOS Children’s Village’s team started to do a complete medical checkup and took them back to the hospital to continue their treatment from all other sickness that they were suffering from, after that they were brought to the Children’s Village.
Today, Diyaa (14 Years old) is going to school and he is in the “Ninth Grade”, when he comes back from school he likes to join the Folkloric Dance Group in the Village, he likes the Folkloric Dance, also his brother “Ihsaan” the one in the “Seventh Grade”, and for his sister “Amani” the one with the most beautiful voice, she is in the “Fifth Grade” , and “Kefaya” loves to play with the kids and she is in the “Third Grade”.
