Gaza Blog: Daily endurance at the SOS Children’s Village
The SOS Children’s Village has become a part of the social and the structural surrounding in the area that it is in, which is in Rafah city in the southern side of Gaza Strip, that means the village and its staff are in the same great danger and suffering even though of the great and special service that the village provides.
Lately, I and the village’s Director “Mr. Wael Abu-Mustafa” have had a mission to protect the village and its people during the war’s hard time, I was afraid that the village would be harmed in any way due to the war, for that reason we setup a plan to stop the work in all parts of the village and keep just the children’s houses and the main people that we need them to be there at all times and send the rest to their homes, Mr. Wael and his family stayed in the village to manage and keep an eye on everything. But there were many challenges the we have to deal with in a daily matter, it’s the problems that were caused by the siege, like providing many things that the children need, and it’s really hard to get now a days, such as propane and prices escalation to five times the amount, all of this need a careful negotiation with Mr. Wael, and also it needs a lots of efforts to provide it, sometimes we put a list for the main things and give up on things that is not vital to have because it’s not available in the market.
The other problem is, the village staff because they were hurt mentally and psychology because of the siege that lasted for a long time, which is I think it was very long myself and it’s not helping in any solution in the area, this is making things more complicated, some staff members in the village have relatives in Egypt but they can’t visit them on vacations and the cross point is only 2 kilometers away from the village, and this caused a lot of depressions and mental problems to the staff. We still have shortage in building supplies due to the closer of the cross points and that caused a total stop in the development and remodeling that has been planned, and this also goes on the people who surrounding the village, in Gaza Strip in general there are more than 22000 houses and structures that has been destroyed completely or partially and this is been going on for two years where it forced more than 40000 worker to go in and endless unemployment. Beside all of this, I and Mr. Wael are doing a lot of mind work that needs lots of efforts and clear mind to accomplish these hard works.
