Child sponsorship update from the SOS Children's Village Mangarano, Madagascar from Winter 2008

RECEPTION AND CHILDREN'S TRANSFERS
Priorisation of the mission of children's reception, because places are still available and because receptions of new children are possible. Transfers of young people towards youth facilities are realized marking a cycle of life in the Village which blew out the ten candles this year of 2008 :
• social Inquiries of admittance of new children.
• Reception of new children :

O In February, 2008, 2 twin girls of 33 months further to an urgency and confirmed by the social commission of June, 2008.
O In August, 2008, 7 other welcomed children confirmed by the social commission of June, 2008.
• Transfer of young people into youth facilities : 3 boys and 1 girl.

DOMESTIC EVENTS AND HOLIDAYS
• Baptism, first religious community of different children.
• Participation of the children in the children’s Forum organized by the Day care centre of the association
• The annual " Zaza miara-midôla " program, a cultural distractive activity with the children comminf from 2 surrounding districts (Mangarano II and Ambodisaina) for the socialization and the education in the citizenship realized in December and integrated into the celebration of the Christmas.
• Summer camp to Andevoranto, domestic holidays to Foulpointe and Antananarivo, holidays in origin families for all the other children.
• Visits of the children’s origin places by the educators and the social worker.

COLLECTIVE AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES
• Participation of tennagers and young people of the Village in the Forum of professions organized with Sisop Toamasina collectively with the other structures of Children's Sos Villages of Toamasina.
• In sport, the tournament of football, handball, the interclubs meetings of karate (city of Toamasina) as well as swimming events motivated the children on openings and contacts with the other circles.
• Participation of some children of the Village with different contests of the National Championship of Handball (Feminine and male)
• The visit of the passengers M/S Europa boat under the direction of the major Ackermann and his crew to inaugurate the House M/S Europa, in this particular case the MF 4 (familial house) named Ambohimalaza with mum Clarisse, Aunt Dine and their 6 children. The mothers, the aunts and the children prepared malagasy flats for the guests, the children danced traditional malagasy airs and European waltz. A tree was planted occasionally by the major of the Passenger ship and the Director of the Village.

SCHOOLING OF THE CHILDREN
• schooling in the Primary and secondary schoool mentions 90 passages in superior classes on 97 pupils who frequent the school, whereas for the Nursery school, passages in superior classes are almost safe 100 % for it, case of a child who doubles its class.
• For official exams, the candidates passed successfully all their exams CEPE: Certificate of Elementary Primary Studies and BEPC: Patent of Studies of the First Cycle.
• 8 children follow their schooling outside the Village : 1 in 9th class at the school saved Children (socially disadvantaged person); 1 in 6th in CEG (secondary public school) of Mangarano (continuation of their studies in post Asama) ; 1 in 3rd year in the nun’s Centre Professional forming ; 4 in Second in the James Seth school and in the Lycée II and 1 in Terminal in the Tsarahofana school.
• The children did not undergo any school decrease.

HEALTH AND SANITARY EDUCATION OF THE CHILDREN
• Medical examinations of welcomed or recently to be welcome children in the domestic houses.
• Studio of sensitization on the effects of the tobacco and the drug made in collaboration between the educational team of the Village and the agents of the customs Brigade and minors for the attention of the teenagers and the young people.

• Distribution of medicines against the filariose in the nursery school, the primary and secondary school, the Football Centre, the domestic Houses.
• systematic Medical examinations of the new pupils of the nursery school.
