Child sponsorship update from Choluteca, Honduras
Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Choluteca, Honduras from Winter 2008.
Dear Sponsors:
We are sending you best greetings on behalf of the SOS Families in the Village Choluteca and the Collaborators.
We want to share with you that we grew up in our SOS family because we actually have 116 children between ages from the half year to the twenty two years old, distributed in 13 formed families but this November we will open the 14th house.
The majority of the population is attending the primary school because there are 62 children registered in 7 schools of the community; they are obtaining good grades because just one child will reprove his academic year but the reason of this is because he has knowledge problems; in holydays he will receive extra-classes to improve his learning to be ready to enter to the school the next year.
We are happy because we are preparing ourselves to graduate 8 children from the pre-scholar education; they are ready to start the first year of the elementary school, another 11 children from the sixth year of elementary education and the first lady graduate from the secondary education. She will obtain a title in Education Baccalaureate; she is a model for the other children because she is much applied and collaborator girl. The next year she will start the university because she wants to study Education. To celebrate this achievement her mother is preparing a special dinner because this girl desires to share this great moment with the person who she loves.

During the year we received guitars donation from the Gibson Foundation and actually 6 children who are interest in the music are taking a course to learn to play guitar with a music teacher on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. One of these children already plays in the San Paul Church Chorus in a festival realised the last month.
The children have been stable of health but next December it’s programmed a surgery to a young who has physical problems in the right leg.
The youths are very excited because they will start the vocational work soon on different institutions of the city; at the same time helping as volunteers in the community centers where the strengthening family SOS programme which actually work in 9 centers of the town.
We started the independence program with a young lady who is 19 years old; she actually is attending her second year of Health Baccalaureate. She rents a room outside the city and she handles her own money. Her mother is always pendent of her academic yield but also others areas like health and behavior.
The youths keep the Village clean and pretty; they take care of the gardens and the maintenance of the houses doing smalls repairs; they show that they love very much their Village. The collaborators are always compromised with the labor in pro of the children working by now 22 collaborators: 5 SOS mothers, 11 SOS aunts; 3 are in the administrative area and 3 are in the general services.
Your contributions to our children are invaluable for what we invite you to keep supporting them. We take advantage that we are in holyday time to desire Merry Christmas and a joyful New Year 2009 full of happiness for you and your families.
