Child sponsorship update from Xiengkhouang, Laos

Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Xiengkhouang, Laos from October 2008.

As the Season’s Greetings soon coming we have a great pleasure to express our hearty appreciation and thankfulness for your generous and continuous support to our SOS Children’s Village Xiengkhouang. In this occasion allow us to present our progress report of second half of year 2008 regarding to the development and the village life to you.

The total of children is 151 (65 girls and 86 boys) including 20 boys at youth house, 06 young men at hostel, 25 at state dormitory and 100 children (50 boys and 50 girls) living now in the village. All of them are in good health. In this grand vacation we have moved 5 young boys from village to youth house and 3 from youth house to hostel. 11 mothers and 5 aunts have a high responsibility to take care of their beloved children.

For the academic year 2007-08, 10 girls and 5 boys obtained with proud the certificate of high school; 8 of them could attend to National University and 7 to Vocational School in Xiengkhouang province and in others province. The new academic year 2008-09 started since 1st September and almost of our children are attending in SOS School Xiengkhouang: 3 at our SOS Nursery School Kindergarten, 33 in primary level, 36 in lower secondary level, 54 in upper secondary level, 6 at Teacher Training College in which 2 in final year, 13 at National University to be award as bachelor degree for 5 years and 6 at different Vocational Schools to obtain the high diploma for 3-4 years ( Business Administration, Transport-Tele-Communication, Polytechnic, Agriculture school ).

Events at Xiengkhouang, Laos

The important activities were taken place inside and outside the village; our children joined the celebration on International Children’s Day. On 23rd June as the SOS Day the important ceremony was held with grateful meaning. The SOS Mothers as the guardians of our children participated together in the National Teacher's Day which was organised by the SOS School with the entertainment performance. In weekends our youth boys came to help the social community in order to repair the road, dig the well and create the farm.
On grand vacation our children enjoyed swimming at Namngum river and having a funny picnic there.

The monthly meetings for mothers and staffs were organised as usually to improve their responsibility; therefore our mothers could bring up the children in good way of their life and our staffs could fulfill their works in good right.

Our SOS Nursery School has provided 104 kids in which 101 come from neighborhood and 9 of them from the very poor families obtain the scholarship and lunches prepared by our SOS mothers.

Dear Sponsors and Dear Friends, without your kind help and generous support we could not reach our goal as far as to continue our works on SOS Children’s Village Xiengkhouang. It is no more word as to express our deepest thanks and great gratitude for your kindness. We try our best to take care of the children and wish you a longevity and success in your works as well as in your personal life.
